So just curious what everyones thoughts are on if its worth fixing and keeping the headlight washer system on my 60. My gut tells me ill never use it and its more money and figuring to make it work. But the other side of me is like its kind of cool.

I know that there will be a mixed amount of opinions on it in here but I guess if you have a functioning system do you actually use it and does it do its intended job?

TIA

I’m disappointed that my FJ62 doesn’t have them! I think they are cool and would fix them up. It’s a nice touch

I’m happy to have mine, nice to get the headlights a blast when it’s muddy out.

My 1984 had them. One of the right angle valves failed and it would just drain all the fluid out. My reservoir was cracked, and then I got in an accident which took out the front bumper, valence, core support, and driver fender. I found a parts rig that had a valence with no holes (same color even) so I just decided to delete it all. I never used them anyway.

@TRFarmers makes a nice washer rebuild kit that contains the check valves, hoses etc.

A functional headlight washer is a…QUIRKY, ONE-of-a-kind, and totally UNIQUE part of the “60’s” Land Cruiser lore but certainly not in the same category as “snake blinders”. The term “usefulness” conjures up an endless debate of maintenance and repair. If only a headlight WIPER ( think Saab circa 1980) could have been added… that would have been the pioneering ticket to luxury going down the byways & interstate highways…after hitting the trails of course. And then, think about headlight washers/wipers as a factory option on the successor FJ62…a totally “mind-blowing” and “funky feat” of engineering!

What @88Retired62 said. Very quirky option which makes some of these trucks stand out from others. It wouldn’t be my top priority, but if I had the option, I would try to get it working and keep it.

I see you’ve made the choice to keep them, great call. I have them on my ‘84 FJ60 and ‘15 LX570 but not on my ‘87 HJ60. The ability to restore some headlight brightness while driving through slush/snow is invaluable. Saves having to stop and hop out when the highway is dirty and spray kicks up and dirties the headlights. Safer as well.

Canadian 62? 62s here never had them.
Yes, I’ve had 2 Canadian 62s and both had headlight washers. Didn’t realize that US models don’t have them!
