Not the best lighting, but here’s an idea of what it looks like. Rocking the amber right now, but the green matches beautifully too.

I am liked enough that I received a Bremen for Christmas. any tips on wiring this bad boy? I have a metra harness that I used for my previous Sony head unit.

Still waiting.

Toyota or some enterprising LLC should really take a page out of Porsche’s book and produce a vintage looking factory head unit with some modern connectivity accoutrements.

Would buy like yesterday.

Take a look DIN units from Freightliner, Peterbuilt etc. You get bluetooth and most will also have NOAA weatherband channels.

I have the CSS-5930BT. It has bluetooth and weatherband, the green matches OK with the factory look. I didn't like the bluetooth mic on the face of the receiver so I had to solder it to accept a standard 3.5mm wired mic.

Work in progress but happy so far.

Awesome gift!

Unfortunately, I paid my indie to install mine as I didn’t have the time this year. 😔

Not sure if people found a better non screen option but here's mine. Alpine CDE-265BT.

Has bluetooth and USB connections. Supports handsfree calling but not texting. Xm radio can be added with the accessory from Alpine. Color is adjustable, I have it set to a green that matches the green factory lights almost perfectly. It's a great radio and has the look I wanted, which was no big screen and looked like it came from that era of truck. They are not available new anymore but you can find good working used versions on ebay still.

I have the same concern...I don't want that busy look. I saw this radio (link below) on Donut Media. Kind of a classic look and not nearly as busy. I haven't bought it becasue I'm still not sure.

Amazon product ASIN B08D2R48HZ

I just purchased the same combo on ebay. Was planning to put it in my Skyline but I have an 80 too and that looks right at home there!

Reviving this old thread.

Were you able to use the stock head unit brackets? And did you have to trim some of the dash opening?

I just bought a Frankfurt, but cant get the brackets to line up to any holes

I had a Bremen, could not get it to install in any manner I liked. I’m sure you could rig up something custom but I decided it was too much of a PITA and returned mine

The previous owner of my truck had a double DIN unit installed that was replaced by the Bremen. It had brackets that supported single DIN as well. Not sure if they ended up trimming the dash for that, as I didn’t do the install.

I've tried to find the right headunit for an 80 series for 3 years now. I am really hoping the search is over with this new product from Pioneer.

Does anyone here have the contacts or resources to develop something like the Porsche radio above, but for the Land Cruiser? I would be interested in financially backing someone, or some company, to develop this in hopes of selling more than a few. I'm under the impression that all the tech already exists, it's just a matter of packaging it in a way that looks OEM for 80 series Land Cruisers.

Most of these retro style radios look 1980s and earlier design to me, hard to find something that screams "90s".
I get the appeal of an old school unit with all physical buttons but I think a clean modern HU doesn't look too far out of place in an 80 series plus you get all the latest features. After all whats the point in having a retro style radio and then clutter up the dash with tablets and phones for navigation and whatnot... unless you don't need that. Probably my favorite modern design was the Sony AX1000 series, timless imo

I want a volume knob, rounded square buttons similar to the HVAC controls, and a screen that is just large enough for practical functions.

The photo of the unit you posted is probably the best aesthetic of aftermarket options with a touchscreen, but still far from OEM look in my opinion.

Well, the buttons aren't rounded, but in two decades Toyota's aesthetic and wiring haven't changed much. This is a ca. 2015 Scion head unit. It took a little work to make the dash fit around it, and my work is far from flawless, but the rest of the rig isn't flawless either! In the end, it took less trimming of the depth, and more trimming of the back of the trim between the heater and head unit than I originally thought it would. The wiring just basically plugged in (oem amp and sub were already gone) and even the brackets worked with a little creative work using longer hardware and a couple of extra nuts to space it flush.

Edit: don't mind the dust, I've been in the desert. Also, my Sharpie blackout attempt on the Scion logo looks better in person, but the camera really picks it up. 😆
