Hi I have the 97 lx450 .I need help getting rid of static , engine whining when engine is running only ,in my head unit . I have ran a ground wire from the engine area to the frame to the back of the head unit and I have connected a ground wire to every ground wire from the speakers at the head unit and the head unit itself . I don't know what else I can ground to get rid of the static . . I’m adding this . I have a kenwood head unit . I’m using the single connection that goes back into the white connection that goes to the factory amp . I wanted to use the 2 gray connections but I only have 1 gray connection not 2 . I’m not sure what’s going on with at . Do some lx400 ‘s only have only one gray connection. ? I only hear the whining through the speakers when the engine is running . Update 8-2-24 . I unplugged the 2 connections that went to the factory amp and used the 2 gray connection I unplugged from the amp and ran the extended wires to the radio . No more engine whining . It sounds so good now . Thanks for everyone's help .

I suspect we're going to find after a page of "helping" you that this is a nonstock radio you have put in. So why don't you share what you've done? Wiring harness - everything.

What they said but, also check the condenser under the hood as the wire and insulation become brittle. It is my understanding this can create the issues you are having but, as I am not an expert on the subject, could be wrong.

Also, hooking up the power antenna trigger has been known to cause the issue.

Make sure all three bolts are in the antenna bracket inside the fender.
Mine was being held by the nut on the top of the fender. Every time I put it in reverse the radio went dead.

Installed the bolts and problem went away.

And just like that, we're at 10 helping posts and not a word from the OP as a courtesy to the forum to provide further information. This will end well.

I think doug still has a sour taste from the bizzare "runaway 1fz" that turned out to have LPG...ha!

Truly - I am. As you can see from my signature, I'm on a few other forums. We're seeing AI generated posts on several of them, and they're oft generic topics that would fit any make/model vehicle with little further input from the OP because that gets more challenging. Apparently the Google verification to confirm we're not a bot where they use pictures and ask "click on the pictures with a bus" in them was also used to sharpen up machine visual learning by building a human ability data base to compare to as it got better and better. So this may be nothing more - getting AI out into social forums where it can learn to be human like? Weird future to contemplate if true, eh?

I just took the radio back out to look . I connect the after market kenwood with the single connection that connects back to the factory white plug . It has rc cords coming out of it. I could only find one gray connection , it’s the bigger gray one . The small gray one is no where to be found . Is it possible I don’t have a 2 nd gray wire ? I have a 1997 lx450 .

Radio only? Or whatever media (cd’s tape, mp3) also? If it’s just the radio I suspect a pinched or damaged antenna wire.
No it’s any thing I connect or use it has a cd played and it whims I blue tooth my phone and it whine . USB connection and it whims . I only hear the whining when the engine is running .

Could be a bad head unit is it aftermarket or oem?
It’s a kenwood . I will try to buy another brand and see if that makes a difference . If it only makes the whining noise with the engine running could it still be the head unit ? It sounds good as long as I don’t start the truck.

To test it can I just unhook the antenna from the radio ?

We need pics. Your basic stereo harness should pretty much always have gray and a gray with stripe wires. It’s the pair that goes to the front right speaker.

Have you bypassed the factory amp?
