HDJ81 "Snow Version"?

It's a black plug with wires coming out of it next to the primer pump (closer to the fender).

I was imagining things. I pulled the cover off the engine bay fuse box and there is no fuse in the slot marked for fuel heater.
But what is this doohickey with the wires plugged into it on the primer pump that I'm pointing to?

Water Sensor that's in the bottom of the fuel filter, Its that Orange/Yellow light with what looks like a water drop when you start your truck up.

"Snow Version " is applicable only to diesel Land Cruisers that equipped with fule heater, radiator shades. I have not seen the petrol "snow version"
as petrol is more resistant to cold climate plus petrol does have a heater from the exhaust.

I’m curious as to when the heater turns on (on the fuel primer). I had to replace the stock winter one (with heater) last year when my diesel fuel (20 percent bio diesel) froze / gelled at -10F. I didn’t have it hooked up at the time, not that I think it would have mattered with the truck being off.

Ordered a new one and installed it recently since it was pretty obvious it wouldn’t hold pressure properly. Found a replacement and moved the heater over to the new one, but it hasn’t been cold enough for it to work yet. At least my seat heaters work great, even if the fuel heater doesn’t do much unless the truck is on.

The switch is actually a vacuum switch inside the heater itself. It kicks in at a certain "resistance" of flow of fuel. So the two leads to the heater always have power to them, when IGN is on.

I was suspect of mine as well, so I bought a hand vacuum tester and checked it accordingly to the tests in the FSM, and it passed fine. Tool was cheaper than a replacement heater so I was satisfied with that ☺️

Do you get cold temps like that on a regular basis? We often have -15 C for weeks. Sometimes dipping to -20 to -25 for a week or two.

Honestly the best mod I have ever done to my cruiser was a Webasto TSL recirculating diesel block heater. The things freaking amazing.

I wouldn’t say super often, but -8C to about -10C is very common here. I have been looking at the recirculating heaters, I’d love to have the diesel hit operating temp on startup vs having to drive it around forever until it warms up.

👌 Only winter mod needed, really. Good coolant heater, good batteries.

Another strong vote for the Webasto, no more cold starts! Plus, the drain on the electrical from the glow plugs was affecting my power window's ability to roll the window back up, which was a problem leaving my parkade at work to go home in the winter, it would take a block to get the window back up and needed some revs, it was not great.

The fuel temp sensor is located inside the fuel tank , and it is this fuel temp sensor that triggers the heater located on the fuel primer .

Portcruiser, I don't see that here? Looks like FUEL HEATER RELAY is trigged by the IGN on fuse block. Look at the heater itself, you can see the switch inside it. The heater is triggered by the vacuum switch inside the heater assembly.
