Early models (KZH106, KZN130, KZJ7X) equipped with the 1KZ-TE engine and R-series transmission used bellhousing 31111-60270, while later versions came with 31111-35100 or 31111-35101—both of which have been superseded by 31111-35102. The early bellhousing (60270) is discontinued and very hard to find, while the later ones are still available.

Does anyone know if there’s an actual difference in depth between these versions (e.g., one being shallower or deeper), or if the changes are mostly related to external accessories like the starter, slave cylinder, clutch fork, etc.?

I’m looking into parts for a 1KZ swap and currently have a 1994 R351F transmission. From what I’ve read, the input shaft length changed in the late ‘90s, becoming about an inch longer. So, if the earlier bellhousing is indeed shallower, that would probably be a better match for my transmission—and might even give me a bit of extra space up front near the radiator.

The catch is, the earlier 60270 bellhousing seems to only be available used in Russia. Before I go down the rabbit hole of figuring out crypto payments or using a middleman, I’d really appreciate if anyone here could confirm the physical differences between these bellhousing versions.
