Portcruiser, I don't see that here? Looks like FUEL HEATER RELAY is trigged by the IGN on fuse block. Look at the heater itself, you can see the switch inside it. The heater is triggered by the vacuum switch inside the heater assembly.

There is a fuel temp sensor inside the tank also , attached to the fuel level sensor . I don't have a diagram , sorry .

No Sh*T! I have a fuel heater! I was shocked when I found this thread and looked under my hood. No mention of a winter version. Didn't know it was there. No other parts of the winter version either (rad shield, heated seats etc.) But the fuse and extra wire are there. I was curious when I knew my truck had the extra tail lights on the tailgate and I was told it was some Swedish winter version or something. Don't quote me on that. I am trying to diagnose a stalling issue in cold weather. If I may revive this old thread, is there any chance something like this could cause my engine to start up, but then slowly die? It is not terribly cold (25 degrees F) but it is struggling. If I can get it started and on the road, I may have to go 5 miles or more, well after my heater heats the car before it starts running normal. If I can get it going at all. I am replacing my glow relay today but this is something I just stumbled on. I wouldn't think the temperature is a problem, but our bio-blends in Georgia can gel at 25 degrees.

I had a similar issue where the truck would start fine, run, then after a couple minutes rpms would drop and it would stall. Then getting it started the second time was a real bitch.

It ended up being air in my fuel line, getting in past the small o ring at the bottom of the fuel filter (where the water sensor goes). I replaced my fuel filter and problem solved.

It can also be getting in other places too, like around the hand primer, apparently common. The leak is so small that diesel won't leak out, but air gets sucked in. And only at certain ambient temperatures. For me it was exactly-13C or colder.

Put some clear vinyl hose between the intake pump and the hand primer/filter. Just temporary, to verify no air is in the line.

Thanks a lot for that. I bet that’s what it is. i just happened to notice a film of diesel fuel right there so I bet you are right. Fuel filter is pretty new. Year old, but it looks like something that is right there. That may have just saved me a lot of headache.

NP 👍☺️
Could be the hand primer too which isn't serviceable. A little more expensive fix , but not TOO bad and really easy to do. The primer module is available to purchase from places like partsouq. Make sure if you do end up buying one that it's the heater version (there is a heater version that has a spot to attach the little heater)

You can also try just re/re the filter and it's orings too. Wet them a little with some diesel.

I am going remove and check the filter too. I decided to hit the primer hard to see if I could spot a leak and low and behold, fuel started to come out through the sensor cap on top. I am re-sealing it now. With any luck, that will solve my problem.

Sorry. I meant the heater. I just put new rings on it but still leaking. It is on the outside of the plastic assembly. I assume that means I need a whole new housing. Unless that plastic piece the heater sits in comes out. I don't see how.

Yep. Found it. Thanks a lot. Wish I could just replace the heater, but the two parts are slightly different than the original. Looks like there is more plastic on the new one compared to my mostly brass one. Once I get the new one, I will tear the old one up to see if there was a way to replace that plastic insert, but I guess you all are saying it cannot come out. I re-ringed the heater insert and my truck is running better. Idle is up, but still leaking when I prime the pump. At least I am back on the road until the part comes.
