Oh man I’m in trouble.
Harmonic balancer quit on me, and lost the #2 pulley about a month ago so truck has been parked for a minute. Replacement parts from megazip are a fit, but the replacement #2 pulley only has one belt groove which means i get no power steering. Anybody know whats up with that? Beyond that the radiator is kaput, the hoses are corroded and i cant find a radiator guy in new york. And hoses are sold out. saw a knock off radiator on ebay posted in these forums so maybe you guys have leads on hoses and a two groove pulley?

Forgot to mention, ‘92 lj78 ex5 with the 2lte.

There’s a shot of the crank pulley assembly

Is it just me or your CK pulley (shiny new part) has an unutilized middle groove for the lower belt loop?

Idk, not an expert by any measure, going by what I can see from that picture.

Cheers!

I thought the same thing, but it’s just an optical illusion. The crank diagram looks like the no2 pulley oughta have two grooves, but the part sold on megazip and partsouq only has one. I almost wonder if i can just mount a second pulley on top of the first, but i dont know if the bolts are long enough, or if that would be extremely dangerous

Hi thanks for the reference. My truck is a 1992 lj78 ex5 with the 2lte.

The pulley i have in there is from megazip, but photos on partsouq show it’s the same one sold there. You think i could just add another pulley on there?

Dang. I see your point.

I was even contemplating the possibility of running one belt from the crack to the alternator instead of two, but that is dumb as the rest of the loop pulleys has the two grooves needed for a dual belt.

The only thing I can think of is:

A. Either Megazip stocks/sent the wrong pulley

B. Maybe it is a pulley for the 2LT but for some weird non-power steering version destined for a long forgotten market?? Lol idk.

Yeah i got both. One is the harmonic balancer, one is the #2 pulley. That’s a total of three grooves. Seems like there should be a 4th though - two fan belts, ac, and power steer. Do i have that wrong? Otherwise the grooves dont seem aligned.

The 2LT belt diagram is the same as the 2LTE. It shows 3 belts. The second belt diagram deciphers the initials in English, CK, crankshaft, AL, Alternator etc.

Here is the belt diagram for the 2LTE:

Looking at the picture, are there 2 belts on the alternator?

Yes, there are two belts on the alternator and water pump, one for the AC compressor and one for the power steering pump. Looking at the parts diagrams for both of the LJ78's I've had they both list the single grove #2 pulley, PN 88451-35030, and the quantity required is one. Unfortunately I don't have any decent photos of the front of the engine that would show the crank pulley setup. What happened to the original pulley? Was it damaged when the harmonic balancer let loose?

Yeah i have two belts on the alternator, if they wrong?

Yeah, the rubber in the balancer sheared and the original #2 is in two pieces - tbh, i cant tell if it was a solid piece or not… it kind of looks like it was always two pieces… but what it looks like doesnt feel like enough information to take the risk. I have seen that some older vehicles did have stacked pulleys. Ive seen mustang forums where they talk about it. But if the alignment is off ill shred my belts right? And if the tension is off because maybe the additional pulley isnt the right spec, i can damage the crank or the power steer pump or something else like the water pump.

Your crank pulley should be a 3 pulley design. 13408-54070

You probably received a supersession which is the two pulley design. 13408-54090

The pulley that mounts to the front of the crank pulley should be a 1 groove pulley for the AC compressor. 88451-35030

That’s exactly what happened. 54070 is discontinued, so i got 54090.

Do you know if 1340867020 is a suitable substitute? Seems to also have been paired with the 2lte
