What size did you want and I will try and call him today. Did you ever find out what a 1.3/4 inch die for the bender would cost?
2in is too big for the hoop on the sliders and 1 inch is to small... I got some weird looks in home depot messing with the pvc pipe they had.

Dave

Any update on tube sources and prices?

Does anyone have any dates they want to set for their HAMOMs?

A 2.75" die will be about $250. UC already has a big chunk of change in the bender with three UC'rs chipping in $50 each to help fund the purchase. I might have use for the 1.75" die but need to think about it a bit more. Would anyone else have use of the 1.75" or even a 1.5" die? I don't mind buying tools for UC but we have to use them. The bender hasn't received much use up til now.

I will be in for a new die. I have alot of tube work to do. I need sliders and bumpers. also a top and steps for my 416. the trailer i am planning on 1 inch tube so we have a die for that. the truck stuff i can do 1.5 or 1.3/4. so let me know what size you want to go with and we can see what a die will cost. what type of bender does the club have so i can look for a die and see what the cost will be.

Thanks
Dave

I was all excited to have a bender available but I lost motivation after we never had a time to show us how it works. (Unless I missed that) Also I decided to sell my 62 shortly after loosing motivation to build something.

I want to get a bumper like I listed before for the 80. Figuring out costs vs getting someone to fab it for me is my issue. As if its close to each other then I will just get someone to make it for me.

Let me do some looking for the size I want.

We have a Pro-Tools HD 105.

I'm working on getting someone to come out and show us how to use a bender - stay tuned.

It's not rocket science.

Keep me posted on the tubing buy and bender day. After Gulches, it's become obvious that the warn bumper is TOO far out front. So I'm looking at making a new front and rear bumper outta tube/plate steel...

Carp, with your lift, were you still dragging the rear bumper at Tellico?

Only because my ass is so big! I think I'd have to bob the 60 (not in the plan) to not drag over some things. But a bumper stronger than stock would be nice.

Wagons always drag ass. IPOR has a 60 rear bumper for $295. No quarter protection at that price though.

I wonder if we could pick up some square stock 3/16 thick, cap the ends, weld on some 3/16 plate mounting points for the frame, then 2 recovery points and call it a beefy bumper? IPOR has 3/4 inch recovery points for $15 ea. Cost would probably be under $100 when all said and done. I bet with two people and a 220 welder we could do it in a day...beer is extra of course. :grinpimp:

That is a good idea. only problem is that the bumper is out of stock and being redesigned. I thought about getting a kit and then modifying it to what i wanted with tire carrier and high lift mount. There was a guy in the 60's forum that was gonna make some kits but never did. I have since looked at and started liking that hybrid tube front and rear bumpers and think that is what i may go with.

IPOR bumper is what I sold to another UC member. It was fine for mild wheeling but was not overly build as a heavy duty wheeling bumper. Cam at IPOR told me this. It has been being redesigned for 2 yrs or more. Doubt its on the priority list.

Dave,

Are you talking about the bumper that fourrunner or somethign close to that built awhile back? I was first in line to get one made he promised me that cost would be under every other bumper out there, he said around $500 if I remember correctly. Well after a long wait and continuing to ask him about it was going to be quite a bit more and he would not integrate a hitch into it for me. SO I found the IPOR bumper. The same guy has talked about kits for awhile too. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

I am getting a few quotes about custom bumpers from a few guys around SC and NC. I will let yall know how those quotes turn out.

I've started looking at a high clearance front bumper. My bumper sticks out a good foot, seriously affecting the approach angle, and since most everyone wants $$$$ for a decent front bumper, I was looking at tube. Found that SROR makes one, but I'd want to change it up a litte. I've already talked with Jim to see what his pricing for both would be, just want to see if we could do it for a reasonably cheaper price. Steve, while I like your idea, I figure if it's gonna be tubed up front, might as well have a tube in the rear (boy that didn't sound so dirty when I typed it out...)

My update to SROR's - bad MSPaint job, but you get the idea. I'd also want it to be a little more vertical than the one in the link

I talked to a guy a few months ago from Kennesaw Mountain Accessories down in GA. He has some pretty solid pricing on a multicarrier rear bumper system (bumper, tow points, tire carrier) for something like $500. He could probably do quarter protection to if you wanted.

I do like the looks of those.
Here is what I was thinking. I like these front and rear with the hybrid of tube and plate...

but also thought about something like this to be a little less up front.

I would like the tube a little lower to not cover the toyota on the grill but it may look funny that way too.

If we want to trya nd build a few bumpers one weekend I have a shop here that is big enough to set up a small production line, but i do not have a welder yet. While i think there is some skill to tube bending i think that between a few of us we could make some decent bumpers and definetly keep the price down.

Dave

John, are you going get him to make you a bumper? What are you planning to do with the front?

Dave, those are OK, could make them work for me. I definitely want winching capability for the front, with D-rings, and in the rear, 2" hitch and possibility to mount spare on a swing out/swing down. The shop space sounds like a great help, especially if we had a notcher to go with the bender and welder.

What size tube were you thinking for the bumpers?

i was thinking 1 3/4. I just got off the phone with a local welding steel yard here in Asheville to get prices on a welder and gas and also some tubing. they want $83.10 for a 20 ft 1 3/4 inch stick of HREW. to go down to 1.5 inch it drops to $54.35

Yea D rings front and rear and a hitch are a must. I dont have a winch yet but want the front to be made to hold one. Also want tabs for 2 lights on the front and rear tire carrier/high lift mount on the rear.
