I would like some qp protection also just have to get the rear bumper built first and to start on that i need a welder and some steel. thinking about doing a hybrid like the one pictured in the rear bumper thread in the 60's forum, just not sure my fabbing skills are up to it. I have not welded in about 8 years so need to spend some time in the shop....

EDIT here is link to what i want to try and build:

That sounds like a good HAMOM to me. HAMOMs can focus on the needs of one club member - they don't have to be a club HAMOM like the front axle rebuild. It is nice to do something that people can learn from and a desmog, dual battery and sliders would rock.

I need to fab up some rear sliders (quarter panel protection really) but mine is very simple - just a mount welded onto the rear bumper.

My QP is going to be KISS simple. I'm welding 2"x2"x3/16" steel square tube onto my rear bumper (which is 3/16" plate) @ a 90 deg angle. This will be the base of my slider. I'll then turn a 90 and weld another piece of 2"x2"x3/16" that will lead to my frame. I'm thinking then about putting a piece of 3/16 inch plate about 4"x4" welded onto the end of the tube and I'll then bolt that to the frame so the rear bumper can be removed if needed. I'll throw a piece of tube ontop of the slider to provide a bit of protection for rear end 'rubs.'

I think that guy in in AUS as I remember when those pics were posted up awhile back.

Similar pics posted in 80s section of a bumper I want to try to build:

As far as HAMOM I am up for whatever, just need to knwo enough lead time so $ can be had.

I like the 80 version also. Anyone good with a bender? If i can borrow the club bender i may try my hand at bending some tube. I am going to take a week off towards the end of January and may try and get my bumpers and sliders knocked out then if not before.

Dave

I don't think anyone in the club has used our bender too much. My bends are very simple - we could always start there. I need 2 tubes with 2 ~ 80 degree bends in each for a total length per tube of about 2.5 feet. If we messed up we wouldn't ruin much tube.

I bet if we could get Alan and Marshall on this as well as a group of us we could get some good stuff done. Lets make it happen and make some bumpers and sliders. :bounce2:

What size tube dies was it we have?

If we are going to bend up sliders, bumpers, etc then we need a buy on tubing, or at least a good source.

I need about 6 feet of 2" x 3/16" HREW.

Does anyone have a good source?

I will. What do you think will be the first amount needed per person so i can see if we can get a bulk discount? I figure for my sliders i will need two pieces of 2x3 and then some tube for the steps and supports.I am also going to order about 30 feet for the hybrid bumpers and swingout.

your in for 6 feet
anyone else want in if we can get a god price on some steel?

Dave

Order more than you think you will need so when you make a mistake you can still finish up your task. I guarantee you will find a use for any left over tube!

That being said I'll take 24 feet - updated - I need about 5 feet per side now so I'll want at least twice that to fix my mistakes!

I debated going with them also. The price is right, and if the cost of steel is more than what those would cost i may still go with them.

With the piggy back, I'll get in line for the HAMOM whenever. She's lined up to go into an upholstry shop to have the door panels redone, the seats recovered, the visors recovered, and for some headliner TLC.

For the HAMOM, we can:

Rebuild the fuel system
Install new shackles, springs, etc. and lift her about 4 inches
Reinstall the heating system (I've rebuild the heaters)
Reinstall the window regulators and all the guts of the doors
Reinstall lights and other body items

I have a long list and can keep us busy for a while. When is the best time for a trip to Atlanta for some folks?

Looks like our personal plans are changing, so my Cruiser projects got moved off the stove and probably into the fridge. So, put me at the bottom of the list, and if something changes, I'll keep everyone informed.
