Alan and I are meeting at cracker barrel tomorrow at 8:30 at hwy 85 and hwy 153. When we finish we will be on our way up there. I'm thinking around 10 richard so get ready.

I'll be here, I called Chuck to try and get your tools Marshall but he didn't answer.

I already made a run to advance and got some new terminals for my battery cables and a new oil pressure gauge with the copper line since I broke the first gauge and kinked that cheap plastic line.

The plan of action will be for me to fix the exhaust and mount the air filter housing before you guys get here. Then we will get the cruiser running right and hunt down the vacuum leaks. Then try and find where my wiring is screwed up cause im tired of my battery going dead. Then oil filter and resealing the rear diff on on the agenda if we get to it.

I use a battery quick-disconnect. Finding parasitic battery drains in 40
year old trucks can be mind boggling. I use a simple blade switch.
Kind of a simple anti-theft too. I only use it when the trucks will be sitting for weeks.
That's MOST of the time now. :(
When you run that oil line be sure to protect the line as it passes through
to the cab.
Good luck. Hope to see that pig running soon.

well I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes...... :grinpimp:

Thats a huge smile on Richard's face!

Wish I could have made it. Looks like it was a success.

Yeah I was smiling big for a whiel there. Thanks to Marshall and Alan and Ghen and JP today and everybody else who has helped along the way. Its been a LOOOOOONG time coming. Now I get to work on all the little nitty gritty things about it.

Good deal, congrats Richard. Good to see the PIG mobile and in action!!! Good work, gang. Sorry I missed it.

Now get it ready for the trail - maybe the upcoming Jocassee ride!!! :D

Aewsome work guys!!! Richard, good to see it on the move.

So ALan and I got ther around 10am to see Richard already working on the pig. I good sign. We pulled the pig from the garage and started working on it. Cranking it only resulted in a couple of spurts. Since it had a Jim C carb we thought maybe the fuel regulator was bad or it was getting to much fuel or not enough. After screwing with the fuel we switched gears. THinking fuel was okay we went to the electrical side. We regaped the points, replaced the points, set the static timing, reset gap, repaced distibutor cap, rotor button, cap again, took spark plugs out and cleaned them, check spark with a new spark plug on each plug, replaced the coil, checked wiring, checked vac advance, reset gap again, checked for spark, tried a resistor on the coil, went back over to carb disconecting gas and pouring gas in it then starter fluid, back to gas then 1 then 3 then 5 psi on the fuel pressure regulator then back checking dist cap and rotor button. Then back to the carb. NOTHING! I have never been so frustrated. I have never had an engine that I couldn't either diagnose or get started. I was about to give up but couldn't let go. So I decided to pull a plug and check it for spark. Nothing, no spark. Hmmm. Pull another one and the same thing. Try a new plug and we have spark. Check gap on old plugs and it was good. Still no spark. So we changed plugs all of them. And it started right up! Every plug was bad. Completey shot. So the attitude changed instantly. This was 4 hrs into this troubleshooting. And we were all working 100 percent on it. All of a sudden we were pumping tires and getting the pig ready for it's first drive in a year after being towed home. 20 Minutes later timing set all 5 of us were we in it pulling out of the driveway only to be let down 100yards away when the clutch started slipping on a slight incline (the 800 pounds of people in it probably didn't help) We backed down and I loosened the clutch up only to have a little better attemp at the hill so we backed back down and I loosened it as far as it would go. Bam we were off and no slippage. We drove it around the neighborhood and through a small trail it ran great. Starts up every time and off Alan and I were back to greenville.

Had a great time. Thanks.

Good summation Marshall it was quite the day I have the sunburn on the back of my neck to prove it. it wasn't hot but it was sunny and decent out and we got it going. I am the most excited I have been concerning my cruiser in quite a long time. I have been quite down on it trying to troubleshoot my way to it running again and I know you and Alan both got a good taste of my displeasure today, but we got it running and everything turned out for the best. As David would say Ohmm cruiser cruiser Ohmm

Pig plugging?

You gotta be kidding!
Wow. Nicely done. Clutch too. SWEET!
It looks great Richard. I can't wait to see that
bad boy, 'cause you know pictures never do pigs
justice. Ohm....piggie,piggie,piggie...Ohm
KUDOS to the HAMOM crew. I've got their cigars on order.

Who would of ever thought. Amazing as something as simple as spark plugs were the lynch pin. Never heard of the plug becoming totally dead. Guess we should add that to our parts we carry on the trail. So if someone ever runs into the same problem we'll be able to diagnose and solve it. Good to see it runnin.

Yeah they were still sparking sometimes and sometimes not. They were just kind of 1/2 a$$. You need to get yours on the road Chuck your HAMOM was over a month ago.

got other priorities at the moment, but it'll get there.

The exciting results of HAMOM yesterday have me pumped, I worked on the cruiser for another 1-2 hrs tonight putting on new terminals for my battery cables, and cleaning up some of the wiring around the engine bay. Tomorrow I'm gonna get the rear diff sealed up better, I'm tired of wiping up all the gear oil.

Oh yeah thanks Travis, whenevere you actually need to do something let me know I'll be the first oen there.

Still going strong, I sealed the rear diff yesterday, today I put on the new oil pressure gauge with the brass line and hooked up some new lights under the cruiser.
