I have contacted a local VE, Frank Warren, that will do private Technician training. He does not charge for the training. The only costs are $20 for a manual (ARRL charges $25 for this manual) and the standard VE charge for administering the tests which is $15. The classes are 16 hours. Others teach a "ham-cram" class where the students memorize the test answers and then take the tests in the same session. Frank does NOT conduct this type of training. Here is a link to the manual that he supplies for the $20. He recommends getting this manual from him and reading it before the class. ARRLWeb: ARRL Product Catalog
The classes can be broken up any way we want them. Typically it is a Saturday+Sunday. He also does a Friday evening, Saturday, and part of Sunday. He will do the classes any day(s) of the week.
If there are less than 6 students then he will do the classes at his house in Rio Rancho. More students means we have to supply a place for the training sessions. There is no minimum class size.
Frank told me that anyone can take the test at the designated time even if they prepared beforehand and did not want/need to attend the 16 hours of training. He said that he would arrange to do a "test only" if we give him 2 or 3 days notice so he can make arrangements for the other VEs to be there.
For those that are Technician and are considering moving up to General.... There is a class & test that Frank is doing for one of the emergency response groups in August. Anyone is welcome to attend. (He didn't give me the dates.)

If you speak to Frank again, would you mind getting the dates and info on this class & test for the General level? Or just send me a PM with his contact info if that's easier.
Not quite a HDC member... yet. but would like to help out. I work for the Abq Fire Dept, and am currently assigned to the Fire Academy. If a place is needed, I could ask my boss if we could use a classroom for the training. I would need solid dates to present to him. Should not be a big deal.
there's no reason not to be prepared by the test date. I already busted Daisy's chops on this and I'll bust yours too Rudy. Stop messing around, buckle down and study for the test. This will be easier than your middle school math test. Just memorize the answers and do a brain dump on the test. Don't make me kick your collective arses! I've got nothing better to do.....

Well., if you have nothing better to do, why don't you drive by and plan my Cruiser playground in the front yard Biotch ! I am not too worried about it, but any info for the test helps.
One comment on books. Daisy pointed out that my books have "expired." They change the test every few years and my books cover a previous exam. That doesn't mean the content is not relevant, only that the practice test in the books is no bueno.
Yeah, I don't think my my neighbors would approve of the mini-vans! Any suggestions for a study session? What is the web site for the online prcatice exam?
