And in case anybody wants to go the extra step I have the same two books for the General Class too. But like Evan, I didn't get into the textbook as much as I would have liked and mostly studied the Q&A with online test support.

I ordered my own set of books for the General exam. I plan to have more "book time" before taking the exam as compared to the Technician test.

So tell me again why you want to be a "general" of the HAM world? You planning on installing a base station at home with antenna wires running all over the roof or what?:D

At least you east mountain folks have the space to erect antennas.

Quick update on me and Onur taking the test....

They changed the date of the test in Cloudcroft to last night, so we'll be looking for the next one nearby....

Dan

Interesting. It's still up for tonight on the ARRL website. They could have a problem with folks that walk in that didn't get the word.

Yeah. I'm glad I called now.

Apparently one of the VECs had to change his schedule, and it didn't make it onto the ARRL site.

Dan

Thanks to Dan for calling and checking...saved us a 4 hour trip to Cloudcroft with bad weather rolling in.

That said, man, I was so ready for this test, scoring in the mid-80%-upper 80% without even opening a book! I took my SAT's this way too--didn't open a book and got ~1200 or so. (FWIW).

Anyway, we'll keep our eyes open again and see what ARRL shows. That said, I am still going to use our simplex mode channel this Saturday :) for communications....

I know Mike will probably turn me into the FCC police.

:p

:flipoff2:

That said, now I can spend the afternoon at Dan's turning a wrenching and doing cruiser stuff....

Well, on the ARRL site today, NM wasn't even an option on the exam state-by-state pull down menu. Real bummer. Either NM doesn't exist anymore, or there aren't any exams in NM for awhile.

There is one in Pueblo, CO, on the 13th (that's out--I'd rather be wheeling.)

There is one on 10JAN in Durango.

Kind of a bummer indeed.

From Daryl:

"Onur, thanks for getting hole of me. My next Test session is on January 17th, 2009 at 09:00 am at the Manzano Multigenerational Bldg. 501 Elizabeth SE in Aluquerque, NM."

:frown:

EXCELLENT. Anybody else besides Onur and Dan up for the geek license?

I'm up for the 17th. Scoring a steady 80% on the practice tests. Can we get pocket protectors with some sort of FJ logo on them???

Rick

I like the FJ pocket-protector idea. Mine is getting worn out.

I'll be there going for the General exam.

Onur - thanks for the research on the date. Sorry you can't make it. It sounds like another trip to Istanbul?

Evan

Yes, my yearly trek to visit family and make sure the old people still recognize me....

:)

I'll bid for it off....

Onur, go stand by the display case on the way from the terminal to the parking garage (level 1). If you stare long enough, maybe they'll just GIVE you a technician license. :)

Yeah, I saw the display the other day. It's rather cool.

But I doubt osmosis works at the airport--nothing intelligent works there!
