Welcome to Mud.

I have the same set-up in my 40 and love it. Family can keep track of me when I go on a long wheeling trip.

Haven't seen much activity from PK on the board. Perhaps time to hand the torch to keep this legit :)

Just sat for my Element 3 this morning, and passed with 100%! :bounce:

Got the ARRL Study Guide for Christmas and have been reading it every night, and using the iPhone App by Patrick J Maloney LLC for practice tests. The combo of the two worked well for me.

Now to look at what HF radio to toss some money towards.

 and 73

Hello,
Yes,
Please email/send me the list of hams' when you have them.
If you have a fee, please let me know. I have a old-time 18 Grundig / Telefunken Shortwave radio collection that I sold 2 years past - NOW for ham radio - My rig is a VERY stock 1970 FJ40 Toyota that
needs 2 radios - 1) the old-school AM/FM/Cass. and a used upgraded tri-band ham. I have started studying for my Lic./ticket. All the best - any good idas for a tri-band for local use = 100miles?

It depends on what other resources like repeaters are available locally to you in northern Wyoming. 2 meters will almost certainly have the most traffic, but if you can't reach a repeater then your range is going to be limited to 30-50 miles (or less) depending on topography and where your antenna is. I've never seen much activity on 70 cm where I live and travel to; I'm guessing maybe it is more active near a large metro area but I wouldn't know.

Then for your third band, it depends on the radio I guess. If it's 1.25 meters like some hand-helds have, well I've never even switched to that band but maybe someone uses it somewhere. If you can get a radio with 6 meters or even better 10 meters SSB, you can talk a long ways in the right atmospheric conditions. I've talked all over the world on 10 meters, but it's pretty much a daytime band and then only during high sunspot cycles. 6 can be even more finicky. 10 meters is about my favorite DX band but YMMV.

Just got my Tech. , KG7BHU. Bought a Kenwood TM 281A, just need to find a place for it in the 80, and decide on an antenna !
