well i finally got one of my half doors done today. i capped it wiht some 1.75" tubing because it made it real smooth.

heres what i started with

cut

first peice welded in

all smoothed out

and finally with a nice new coat of asphalt undercoating which is indestructable

pretty easy actually. for this one door it took maybe a day total. i'll post up some pics once i get it on.

looks good, i just made mine flat on top.

the handles are unnesesary on half doors. i can just reach inside to open it and they wont get hung up on trees and whatnot.

sweet.

did you think about adding some of the foam tubing that goes around plumbing pipe (home Depot) and is sticky back along the top? I did as I kept hitting the edge with my elbow and it is just a softer place to rest your arm.

thanks, I've got a set of doors all ready for that treatment, good idea with the pipe.

wantatlc, i had that foam stuff on my last set of half doors and it was nice but i wanted these to be smooth and simple. gladly, if you do yours like mine when you weld the pipe in try to get the flatest weld possible so you dont have as much to grind. i went through one flap sanding disc on that baby. oh and if you clean the pipe and metal once it is tacked together with a wire wheel it makes it easier to weld smooth.

now for a question. the latch part closes perfectly but when i try to open it the handle wont pull the catch thing in far enough to open the door. should i slide the door toward the fire wall or jsut adjust the catch/ handle mechanism?

thanks

Just set it in place. Keeping it round helps keep the sheet metal from deforming when welding

well i got the driver door on and its nice and smooth and i love it. i hvae the pass door cut but havent had time to do the rest. the latch closes fine but it doesnt open smoothly. the spring loaded catch part wont pull back far enough to clear the catch on the tub. i dont know how to adjust this.

here is the one outside picture i took. ill ge tmore once it stops raining and i take the top off. im going to move those mirrors from my full doors to these half doors.

oh and the tub from teh door back is the same black rubber coating so it will match. it just doesnt look that way in the pic because of the mud.

thanks. they should loook better once i get em both done and the top off. oh and im thinking aobut filling them wiht foam to deaden noise. any problems wiht that? is it worth it?

curiosity, 1/75" tubing, were they newer or older doors (thick ones or thin ones)
thanks
