1985 hj75 troopy, Oz, manual h55f. Not sure if I should post in 60's section as most 70's posts are for newer than what I have.

Rebuilding h55f transfer. Have watched both otram and George's videos also referring to toyota manual and amayama schematic. Both Otram's and Georges videos are excellent. I am a little confused with the o'ring which is placed onto the shaft of the input gear leading from gearbox to transfer. Otram's video includes the installation of it and George's misses it. The toyota manual says it is used for auto transmission (atm, I believe). Amayama schematic says only relevant for 1988-90.
My transfer input gear does not line up with the idler gear with the o'ring installed but is perfectly flush without the o'ring installed.

What do I do?! I am kind of guessing to leave it out, it came with a drivetech transfer rebuild kit.

Without o'ring, perfect line up.

If the transmission is a 1985 H55F the O-ring is not required.

The later transmission output shaft -60072 had shorter splines and a smooth machined area where the nose of the transfer input shaft gear sits. The transfer input gear had shorter splines to match and a recess for an O-ring. The easy way to confirm on yours is to look for the recess - which from your description of not lining up when installed with the transfer input gear, it seems not to have.
