I need to move to quick, I have line on H55 w/transfer case was rebuilt in 2002/2003, hasn't moved much since. Looking at $1800

What's the latest price some has picked up a new H55?

I guess all transfer cases are rebuilt now a days not sure if new ones exsist? If so what are they going for.

(I checked out MAF, SOR etc...already)

From my research that is a pretty solid price. I think i have seen them anywhere from 1800-2500. the 2500 being attached to a good transfer case with driveshafts included. Sounds like a good deal to save a couple hundred buck so you can reallocate it to pay for the other parts you will need for the conversion.

that doesnt sound bad at all. Especially with rebuild on xfer. I picked mine up for 2000.00 shipped for trans only new from cruiserparts.

I can only assume it's in good shape because of the rebuild and the receipts. I think owner had planned to do a v8 conversion and never got around to doing it. (The engine is was taken out).

I guess my dilemma is whether to chance it on this one with transfer case or shell out for a new H55 and then find a transfer case for it since I have 84 fj60.

I picked mine up for 1600 shipped plus 200 for the TCase rebuild kit. But I don't think that deal is still around.
Why do you need a new TCase? Rebuilding the old one isn't too hard.
You're gonna need to resize the driveshafts for an 84 regardless, unless the seller will include those in the deal.

I thnk the price new is around $2K plus shipping just for the trans.

I think I was trying to compare apples to apples, new tranny with new tcase cost.

The tcase that is attached to the tranny was also rebuilt, so it should be good. I might be able to get the shafts also. I did have to extend my front one with the shackle reversal that I installed.

So what's my worse case;
That tranny and tcase need to be rebuilt again for whatever reason, what's the going rate on getting them rebuilt?

Just the parts to rebuild are $400-$500. The labor is several hours for each, so figure $400. Close to $1000 to rebuild by a shop and maybe more.

A new H55f is $1650 or so, use the existing 84 case which will work just fine, and a $200 rebuild kit for that and you're good to go. Then you know it's right.

A new t-case from Toyota is probably extremely expensive-I'm guessing it's close to $2000.

For the original poster-was the H55f new or was it one of the ones imported from Australia? If new, the price is OK, if it's an Australian rebuild, I would pass, since a BRAND NEW one isn't more money.

I'm not sure the origins of this specific H55 other than it was rebuilt along with the transfer case. I'm just not sure of the state it might by in since it's been sitting for awhile now. I did have chance to look at in person.

I paid 2k for a rebuilt H55/Splitcase combo, was Austrailian- and still feel good about my purchase :D

I think if a new H55 is close to $1600 (from the Cdan connection, have yet to get a qoute) I'll hold out and order a new one.

I really don't know the condition, the tags on the plate are from 2002 so I'm assuming it has been run since, especially since the engine is missing. The current owner bought from some one else that was doing a v8 conversion and ran out of money and is now parting out the 60.

I think i have earlier 84 year model, I though I had to get a transfer case to match the later year H55F? is that true? Sounds by the replies I can use my current transfer case and for good measure get that one rebuilt.

Kurt (Cruiser Outfitters) sells complete kits in 34mm or 38mm shaft sizes, $185. All Koyo bearings, correct gasket thickness (no shims needed), as good a kit as any. Ordered on a Friday, got it the following Wednesday.

Right, so the t-case kit is about $200 and the transmission kit is about $200, that $400 just for the parts to get started.

I was thinking that this was a crate H55F and a t-case... Sorry. My brand new H55F from Cruiserparts.net was $1850. Used, filthy and unrebuilt T-case was ~$300.
