Duratracs

Dan,
I've been lurking around your build thread and LOVE your GX. I was wondering what you think about the Goodyear Duratrac tires so far? I just bought an '04 and will need tires soon. I'm seriously considering the Duratracs but am hearing mixed things about them. I'd really like to hear what they are like on the GX specifically. How's the road noise / traction and off road grip?

I love them...more to come later.

I have never heard a bad thing about the Duratracs and road noise and have been told by tire salesmen that they are very smooth. They are very aggressive looking to say the least!

So I have several thousand miles on mine. I have wheeled with them a few times as well. They handle extremely well on and off road, I haven't had to rebalance, etc yet. No sidewall cuts, no issues with noise at highway speeds (I just drove to and from Jekyll Island from ATL at 80+ mph).

So far the wear is very acceptable as well.

I highly suggest this tire for an aggressive AT.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try and get a set of 285 70r17 for my ride. I hope they fit with the stock UCA's.

What size are you running?

How the heck would I go about identifying a shop that would be able to handle a 3/2 lift on my daily driver GX? I eventually want to get rid of all the expensive air suspension bits and put on something more stout, but retains much of the smooth ride quality.

Thanks for setting the stage, Dan.

Quite honestly my truck rides better than stock (and looks better to boot). The Iron Man, with armor, etc makes the truck handle more like a sport ride that can take a bump. Where do you live? I am sure we know someone that can help! :)

I live in Seattle, WA, and would love to give my business to someone who knows what they're doing with the GX/120s.

Saw you on Old Milton Pkwy yesterday around 4:30, was in a built white FJC. Your GX is best looking one I have ever seen.....also the only built one I have seen in person.

Cool, I think I saw you too! lol

I always see so many FJs in Alpharetta. I live in Woodstock/Alpharetta if you ever want to hit a trail. You going to GSMTR?

No I won't be going to GSMTR, too busy with school.

Installing hands free bluetooth, mic, USB access, ipad power, RAM mount, and a dash solution for the ipad.

I got a GROM setup with bluetooth, USB, etc

Also picked up a RAM mount + dash bracket from

I love the RAM mounts...great products. We need pictures. :D

Will do once they show up :)

Great looking truck Dan. I'm planning an overland build for the wifey and I to take through Mexico and Central America. The plan was a 4Runner or LC but i'm leaning towards the GX after seeing some of the awesome builds you and others have done. My main concern is the budget. I can afford the truck but I'm not sure if I can afford the build. How much more expensive was it to do what our done here than it would be to do on a 03 4Runner?

Where is the edit button?!?

*what you've done here...

Damn you auto correct.

The cost deltas are not enormous, but if you are on a tight budget they could make or break you. The AWD, V8, comfort, and looks are the only reason I went this route. I wanted a Prado and we don't get one.

The lift was honestly the only "extra" expense since I swapped out the airbags for a stock spring and shock setup.

Which is probably cheaper than replacing the stock shocks in the rear with OEM factory shocks.
