So much for my rule of never saying never. But I've said in 51 years of off roading starting with running a trapline in a rig I've never wanted to winch my way forward into whatever I was stuck in and don't need a front mounted winch I've always wanted to pull from the rear. Pulling others out being the exception but I always run solo.
Not the GX, that will come over the next coming weeks from time to time. Got to the cabin Wednesday and Thursday afternoon hit one of my favorite spots in the Polaris Trail Boss. It comes with a factory winch on the front. Beavers built a dam right on the road, it is just a National Forest Road that always cracks me up when someone says it is just a forest road. Fresh dam must have been built this summer it wasn't there last year. Took it across going in a bit sketchy but doable. Coming back across it part of the dam gave out under me toward the water side.
Took over an hour but was able to pull it out going forward which is the only way out going back
And thank goodness for all the recovery gear that I carry including couple hundred feet of cable and straps. Water was coming in under the door and in the back on the water side and it was close to rolling so first thing I did was get the dog out of the crate. He was happy to play in the mud.
Was rewarded back in there with a rare copper phase grouse both tail and ruff
Almost half way to possession limit with a week and a half to go so stayed around the cabin last night and taking today off. Grilled a couple pound and a half ribeye's with a little apple wood smoke for supper. Grill grates and grilling gear go with me everywhere
That was closer than I prefer, that feeling in your gut when you start sliding and sinking. But life is good and can't get much better. And still on the right side of the dirt.
