At least where we live (west coast), the factory 2013 maps in our GX show an amazing amount of trails with names and numbers, even more than Google Maps without having to pre-download maps before we're out of cell service. One reason why we keep the GX map displaying breadcrumbs when on these trails.
Is the east like that also with your GX maps?
I've found myself in a lot of situations where the GX's navigation shows a trail that in actuality is just a goat path. It also showed me the Pacific Crest Trail as a drivable route north of Tehachapi pass. I'm honestly glad that it errs on that side, rather than being under-marked, but it's always good to have your own maps or GPS when out exploring.

Here's another prime example. Most of the trails on that GPS screen don't exist, and the one that actually does exist has a locked gate. I was glad I still had a half tank of gas when I got to this point.

The ultimate overlander vehicle!
Not sure if any of you remember the "Wild Thornberry's" kids cartoon show back in the '90's, either your kids watching it or even yourselves.
My daughter used to watch it when she was little.
They call their rig the "ComVee":

It's been a while since I've thought of this thing. I grew up watching this - it was one of the regular shows on Nick I would look forward to. That... probably puts me around your daughter's age haha.

My 2017 appears to have pretty detailed mapping of all the forest service roads in VA and WV which is most of our trails. It's amusing in the GX but I think this is one reason you periodically find something unsuitable way further up a trail than they should have gone. People think "well its on my GPS map so its a real road" and are too stupid to turn around when the gravel ends.

I am considering picking up one of the apps like Gaia since that should have up to date info on closures and also better mapping on the off shoots and side trails.

Yup, she's early 30's. She also loved Rug Rats and Rocket Power

I finally finished my 2nd / 3rd row seat delete project.

I removed the 3rd row some time back and replaced them with the Victory 4x4 delete platform. This was a permanent modification, as I gave away the third row seats and trim pieces, and cut the seat belts out. I don't ever plan on going back.

PXL_20240921_144808387~2-XL.jpg

For the second row delete, I wanted to keep that temporary; only used when on trips.

I removed the second row seats and slid two 2x4s under the front facing lip of the Victory 4x4 third row delete platform. I bolted these to existing seat bolts with angle iron and ran a piece of angle iron between the 2x4s for some extra support. I then laid a piece of 3/4 plywood cut to size on top, held down by gravity and held captive by two "dowels" set into the top of the 2x4s and which mate to holes drilled in the plywood. This is the "driving" position; both front seats can be fully back and even recline if needed, and it allows for pretty much the maximum amount of gear storage in the back as well as some storage under the plywood platform where the 2nd row footwells are.

I cut a 9" extension to allow more room to lie down and sleep in the back by sliding the front row seats forward. This is like a table leaf, you lift the existing platform top forward onto a second set of holes that mate to the dowels, and then drop the 9" plywood leaf in between the front plywood and rear Victory platforms. When I camp out of the back of the truck I generally move all the gear either to the front seats or to the roof, and use the entirety of the cargo area to stretch out in. With the leaf in and the seats forward this gives a whopping 80" of room front to back.

It's a basic setup. I ain't Johnny Woodworker or Johnny Fabricator, and in fact I had to borrow a jigsaw (from the library, LOL) to complete this project, but it works great and I have like $60 in it. I also plan on leaving the wood unfinished, it really is only going to be installed and used a few weeks out of the year and under those circumstances it isn't ever going to be exposed to the elements so I see no reason to paint it or bedline it.

I also bought two dongles from Brad's Hacks to compensate for the second row seats being removed, which triggers the airbag warning on the dash. The dongles install in the connector under the seats and turn the warning off.

You got a link to that dongle! I need one for my second row delete

Will need tires in about 6-8 months and starting to think about how big I want to go. At a minimum looking at 33.5 (34x10.5) Toyo ATs but may go larger. Also considering 34 (285/75/17) and 34.5 (35x11.5)
I am running 35x11.5s, and all I will say is if you go this big, you are going all in and will need to do all the things for clearance. But you probably know this.

NVM I googled it and found the website! Man I’ve been wanting this fox for my 2nd row delete and didn’t know it existed!!!
Yeah. Get the round ones, they fit the GX (which is contrary to logic since the connectors are rectangular on the outside). They work great. I did a 1700 mile trip before I got the dongles in the mail and the dash warnings were making me insane!

Yes, and long term I want to run a Marlin Crawker RCLT setup with 37s. Unfortunately I won't be able to get a commuter car so that may keep me at a 285/75R17 or 34x10.5R17.

Going to get some input from the locals before I make any decisions for tires on the GX or 4Runner.

Got the brads hacks dongles in but the little red airbag light is still on? Did you have to do anything else to clear it? Disconnect the battery and reconnect?

I can't remember who j used but when I do put them in, fully, my Airbag light goes out. I remove and re-install my middle row about once a quarter. Currently waiting to put them back in until we are fully settled from moving

Yeah I pushed them in and out a few times, they click but still the light.
Do you have the dongles? Or are you talking about the seat itself.

Yep, just verified that I got the brads hacks ones. Maybe one is bad?

For clarity, do you need to use these Brad's Hacks for the third seat delete? Or just when removing the middle seats.

I used them only on my middle row for the abs sensors

Yeah, I didn't think one needed them for third row. I think I was confusing it with the third row power tap plugs one can buy.

No mine worked for all the warnings. I did not disconnect the battery either when unplugging the seats nor when plugging in the BH resistors. Unsure what to tell you. Maybe shoot him a message via his site?

Edit, did the center dash warning message go away? If it did that would lead me to conclude the BH parts are good...?

Brad is sending me new ones! Great company (person) I never had a center dash warning message, just the little red dash light. Mine is a 2010, so far I haven't heard of anyone using them on the 10-13 model? the air bag seat sensor is not supposed to be different from the 14+ but who knows? Hopefully the new ones will work fine! Here is an image of my sensor incase someone with the 14+ thinks they are different?
