Got an "Oil level low warning" on the dash yesterday while on the trails

Had LOF done at Lexus about 2 weeks ago and noticed no issues driving it since. No leaks on the ground, etc. This was the first time the light came on.

Pulled the dipstick and it was pretty low-- bottom line at best. Admittedly was on a hill nose pointing down so that didn't help, and is probably why this whole thing happened.

This was pretty early into the day so didn't want to bail out. Didn't have any extra 0W-20 with me (won't make that mistake again) so someone gave me 5W-30 and we put in probably 1 cup worth, maybe 2 at most. No idea if it was synthetic or not.

Could go on a long research overanalysis deep dive to find out if there's any downside, but curious if the GX community thinks there's any detriment to running the oil like this until I change it next (probably in 6 months or so)

& also going to run this by the Lexus service department tomorrow as I've never gotten this warning before and they did just change the oil, so doing due diligence in covering myself for the future.

(And apologies for @tech703 for mistakenly initially posting this in their thread lol)

I would keep an eye on the oil level to see if this event was an oil burn issue, low fill issue by dealer service, or gravity.

In regards to the addition of oil, dont even worry a bit. The engine cant tell the difference, and probably appreciated the added viscosity. Unless you were attempting a cold start below -35F, the motor doesnt care. The world manual has more info on oil temps and 5w30 is fine.

I have had a low oil warning light when I spent a prolonger period of time at a very steep angle, laterally, side to side, nearing the point of tippy.

Before I used Mobil 1 I ran 5w50 Castrol syntex in everything I had and I never had issues with it 22Rs or 2RZs. It helped quiet the valve train a little bit. I also was getting it for the same price as GTX.

I only run mobil 1 at recommended weight and standard interval after learning about ph issues with extended interval oil.

Pics roooody! And I wouldn’t worry about the mixed oil salad.

Movers are packing and I am making every effort to not bird dog them. Don't want to be 'that guy'.

I've done all kinds of wheeling at all angles and never have had an oil level warning... the ONLY time I have had that warning is when I cross-threaded the oil filter housing during an oil change as I mentioned recently. I wonder if it was a combination of a light fill and the angle?

I've always done my own oil changes (and only messed up once or twice in 40 years lol) but I would definitely double check oil level and check for leaks at the filter and drain plug if I had a third party do the oil change.

I was at a really steep angle that I would not do on a trail. I was just farting around and then I got out for a picture. When I got back in the oil light was on. I do my own oil changes and check levels every fill up.

Hmmm, well I have wheeled many times in Moab, where you do unbelievable angles due to the amazing traction on that sandstone bedrock... I doubt you were at an angle more than I have done. But never had a warning light.

BTW, did the warning light say "oil LEVEL low", or "oil PRESSURE low"? It makes a difference.

Warning light is probably broken!

Level, not pressure.

Heh, yeah, but as I mentioned, I did get a warning light when my engine was spewing oil everywhere due to a cross-threaded oil filter housing. Though I think it was for oil pressure, not level.
