Good luck with the radiation, that was my partners least favorite part of treatment. Also plan on getting some sound deadening. The cheap amazon stuff I bought smelled something awful, so if that bothers you, you may want to get dynamat.
Thanks! Yeah not looking forward to it but watched my son go through chemo for almost a year. He is in remission now but it wasn't pleasant and thank goodness I don't have to do that and hopefully won't. After walking around Mayo Clinic the last couple of weeks it doesn't take much to remind me that it can always be worse, a lot worse.
Agree with sound dampening. I sound proofed my Polaris Ranger Northstar ~6 years ago and have been through this before. I was able to cut the sound by more than a half in the fully enclosed cab. And still have a lot of materials left over, not that I am a pack rat but you just never know....
Have 2.5 boxes of Second Skin Damplifier Pro left over, it is one of the best if not the best.
You can actually remove it if you have to, not easy but can be done or so people say. But I'm looking at this as permanent. Having a Lux there should be a fair amount down already, you only need 50% coverage to prevent vibrations. It doesn't really block sound it just helps prevent the metal or plastic vibrations from happening. Like everyone else I will probably end up trying for 100% coverage anyhow, because we can't help ourselves LOL.
For blocking sound I have a lot of Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) left over at 1 lb. sq. ft. with 1/8" face fabric glued to it, just over 1/2" total thickness. I will lay down 3 layers for 3 lb. sq. ft. total under the platform. That should get it done. I got it through a tractor interior place in Iowa (but of course!). A lot cheaper than dedicated auto stores,
Tractor Interior Upholstery bulk material.
In the thread on CL I like
how scaldedDog did it with full coverage and use of the floor instead of wings that are pretty much useless on the floor.
I will need tie downs for dog crates, etc. and really like how Jake did his bottom platform
Instead of 1/2" Baltic Birch between the L tracks which I already have I have 1/2" flooring material left over from the Buggy project where I used it for flooring
It is super heavy duty and has held up well in the buggy. And also has 1 lb. sq. ft. MLV in it.
Won't be much sound from the outside coming up through the platform! I will use 80/20 for a second platform on top of it that can be easily removed instead of drawers.
Enough planning, time for execution!
