After almost four years of ownership, I finally used the 3rd row seats last night. We took my sister in law to dinner and my two nephews (10 & 12) rode in the back. That was nice to have the option available, but I might still rather have a lower floor given how rarely we've used it.

On the way home I lowered the window and heard a faint squeak at wheel RPM. Maybe there's a rock jammed between the rotor and heat shield, but I haven't been wheeling in a couple months so I'd still be surprised. Hope I don't have to actually fix anything. I've been enjoying the low maintenance costs.

Coming up on 3 years of ownership here and haven't even lifted the 3rd row, would also rather have a lower floor but such is the price we pay for the low maintenance costs / reliability you mention

@Roody Have you thought about the 3rd row delete? Lexus did sell a 2 row 460 in markets outside of North America.

I did a pretty simple delete, just need a sheet of plywood I think about 42"wide and at least 30" long. I bought 4 rated, zinc coated fasterners to hold mine from the bolts that held the 3rd row in.

I later built mine into a torsion box to act as a cubby for my spare tire until I can afford a swing out. I have less than $100 in my cubby. It's not pretty, but it works and my dogs love riding up there, ac vents pointed at them with a clear view around them.

Wish me luck, I am interviewing for a job in the front range corridor this week. Can't wait to live somewhere with proper trails.

Well good luck with the interview! 🤞

I have a feeling you will be celebrating B roads b gone once you move :D

I moved the family to Mn. from Western NC in my 40's even though most everyone told me it wasn't a good decision and I was going the wrong way. It turned out to be one of the better decisions I have ever made. Prior to that the Navy had moved me all over the Country and I am done moving.

Sure have, it's on my seemingly never-ending/always-growing to-do list but just haven't had the time to get around to it. @JDUB fab and I were going to do it simultaneously but he actually went ahead with it when I was busy haha

I know the feeling... Had the GX for almost a year but winter was not the time to do it. Been collecting materials for how I want to do it but been sick most of this summer. Start radiation treatment later today and then every day for the rest of the week. Screw it, sounds like a good time to rip those seats out and start on a platform LOL. I will be in Canada hunting in less than 6 weeks, it is time to get going on it no matter what. I am sure it will be worth it in the long game. Still have a transmission cooler to install yet but that will have to wait until next week. Or the week after next.

Good luck with the radiation, that was my partners least favorite part of treatment. Also plan on getting some sound deadening. The cheap amazon stuff I bought smelled something awful, so if that bothers you, you may want to get dynamat.

As @Hiluxforever said, hope the radiation goes well

Same here! Know lots of people going through that right now. It's hard on some, others you can't even really tell.

For sound deadening, I've had good luck with Siless sound deadening (which at least was made in the Ukraine). Super-easy to cut with scissors. Mrs. Rednexus and I applied it with one of their rollers. It's held up well after almost 4 years.

Thanks! Yeah not looking forward to it but watched my son go through chemo for almost a year. He is in remission now but it wasn't pleasant and thank goodness I don't have to do that and hopefully won't. After walking around Mayo Clinic the last couple of weeks it doesn't take much to remind me that it can always be worse, a lot worse.

Agree with sound dampening. I sound proofed my Polaris Ranger Northstar ~6 years ago and have been through this before. I was able to cut the sound by more than a half in the fully enclosed cab. And still have a lot of materials left over, not that I am a pack rat but you just never know.... :)

Have 2.5 boxes of Second Skin Damplifier Pro left over, it is one of the best if not the best.

You can actually remove it if you have to, not easy but can be done or so people say. But I'm looking at this as permanent. Having a Lux there should be a fair amount down already, you only need 50% coverage to prevent vibrations. It doesn't really block sound it just helps prevent the metal or plastic vibrations from happening. Like everyone else I will probably end up trying for 100% coverage anyhow, because we can't help ourselves LOL.

For blocking sound I have a lot of Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) left over at 1 lb. sq. ft. with 1/8" face fabric glued to it, just over 1/2" total thickness. I will lay down 3 layers for 3 lb. sq. ft. total under the platform. That should get it done. I got it through a tractor interior place in Iowa (but of course!). A lot cheaper than dedicated auto stores, Tractor Interior Upholstery bulk material.

In the thread on CL I like how scaldedDog did it with full coverage and use of the floor instead of wings that are pretty much useless on the floor.

I will need tie downs for dog crates, etc. and really like how Jake did his bottom platform

Instead of 1/2" Baltic Birch between the L tracks which I already have I have 1/2" flooring material left over from the Buggy project where I used it for flooring

50390931257_d686207096_b.jpg

It is super heavy duty and has held up well in the buggy. And also has 1 lb. sq. ft. MLV in it.

Won't be much sound from the outside coming up through the platform! I will use 80/20 for a second platform on top of it that can be easily removed instead of drawers.

Enough planning, time for execution!

When I was doing the Polaris and researching it came down to either Siless or Second Skin IMO 👍

I used siless fwiw, smell dissipated within 2 weeks

I just pulled my platform panels so I can lay some sound mat and do a few other odds and ends while the trim panels are out.

More pics of my seat delete from the inside front.

The front and corners are re-enforced so there is two layers of wood. The top has a second floating piece I have not re cut to fit when I slid everything back for the 2nd row to fit back in over the winter. This and a host of other things won't happen until we move.

I like how you keep with the Lexus luxury theme of all the natural wood and wood grain you use!

Lol yeah, it does not smell bad either. 😉

Has anyone found any new gas tank skid plate options? As far as I can tell, the only ones are C4, Victory4x4, RCI, and the OEM 4Runner full fuel skid.
Finally got around to installing an OEM 4runner fuel skid. Although not as beefy as the aftermarket options, this should provide a bit more protection compared to the original!
