Sam and I met at Steve's Wednesday morning early, and loaded up the 62. We departed at about 6:30am heading South. We met Charlton a couple hours later somewhere around Harrisonburg, and drove on down to Golden Mountain ORV Park in Sparta, TN. Sparta is a 30-minute drive south of I-40 about midway between Knoxville and Nashville.
After a short stop at Wally-World, we arrived to GM and got registered and checked-in. We found a camping spot which turned out to be fantastic--shaded all day, away from the "crowd", but close enough to walk around and meet everybody and to watch the "Mickey" show at night. John Smith and friends put on a nice display.
A quick map recon that night and we had a plan for the next day. We walked around and said "hi" to our neighbors in vicinity of Pavilion #1, the main pavilion.
Thursday was day 1 on the trails. Here's a few pictures:

We found the trails were really in three categories: moderate, hard, and "OMG!". Even the trails marked "easy" on their map had mud and rock obstacles that would defy a stock truck; or at least risk some undercarriage or rocker-panel damage.
Add rain and "easy" trails were almost impassable. We had a couple of scary minutes, and ended up winching Charlton uphill because there was no traction to get over a rock, going DOWNHILL.
Here's a sample of the mud obstacle on the "easy" trail.

Here's some other pictures.
We picked up Sam's ARB bumper for the 4Runner. See that look of euphoria?!!
Then we mingled around and took pictures of other rigs and interesting stuff. This OZ tent belongs to one of the Georgia Cruisers. Quite possibly the coolest ground tent there. It has an internal frame and attached awning. They added a second awning off the side, and the ground rug was a nice complementary touch.
Then, of course, was the assortment of cool Land Cruisers:
This convertible-ized FJ60 was from Kentucky. Nice clean work.
