We are on the road heading home. Big dinner and raffle last night where Sam won some recovery stuff and Bob won some tools. Tracy, charlton, and Steve came up empty.

Still fun on the trails and meeting some cool cruiser folk.

Thanks Steve. Snap On, Matco, Mac?

some vids from the trip. This was the very easy stuff that did not involve VW sized boulders or wet goopy peanut-butter.
I'll let Steve, Tracey, Crash, and Charlton talk about the close calls and extractions...

Sam and I met at Steve's Wednesday morning early, and loaded up the 62. We departed at about 6:30am heading South. We met Charlton a couple hours later somewhere around Harrisonburg, and drove on down to Golden Mountain ORV Park in Sparta, TN. Sparta is a 30-minute drive south of I-40 about midway between Knoxville and Nashville.

After a short stop at Wally-World, we arrived to GM and got registered and checked-in. We found a camping spot which turned out to be fantastic--shaded all day, away from the "crowd", but close enough to walk around and meet everybody and to watch the "Mickey" show at night. John Smith and friends put on a nice display.

A quick map recon that night and we had a plan for the next day. We walked around and said "hi" to our neighbors in vicinity of Pavilion #1, the main pavilion.

Thursday was day 1 on the trails. Here's a few pictures:

We found the trails were really in three categories: moderate, hard, and "OMG!". Even the trails marked "easy" on their map had mud and rock obstacles that would defy a stock truck; or at least risk some undercarriage or rocker-panel damage.

Add rain and "easy" trails were almost impassable. We had a couple of scary minutes, and ended up winching Charlton uphill because there was no traction to get over a rock, going DOWNHILL.

Here's a sample of the mud obstacle on the "easy" trail.

We picked up Sam's ARB bumper for the 4Runner. See that look of euphoria?!!

Then we mingled around and took pictures of other rigs and interesting stuff. This OZ tent belongs to one of the Georgia Cruisers. Quite possibly the coolest ground tent there. It has an internal frame and attached awning. They added a second awning off the side, and the ground rug was a nice complementary touch.

Then, of course, was the assortment of cool Land Cruisers:

This convertible-ized FJ60 was from Kentucky. Nice clean work.

Several 100-Series trucks were present. They were all very sharp.

This FJ75 (gas engine) stole the show, however. It appeared to be recently refurbished--it was strikingly clean. Needless to say, it didn't get dirty.

OK, more trail pictures! We went on a "difficult" trail Saturday. Here's a good photo to give some perspective:

We didn't get video of winching the 62--but I did snap this one: This was a tough pull and actually stalled the winch; we added a block and then it had no trouble pulling itself over the rock.

Well that sucks! I did manage to make it home in 8 hours and 15 min.............I was rolling!

Thanks for the trip report. Still sorry I couldn't make it.

The 18 hours of total driving for the day and a half of wheeling was more than worth it, even though its was a slippery slope at one point!

Looked like a LOT of FUN!
Maybe for next year.

Sent from the technology that is running our lives!

What?!!! No 80 love

Of course! Here's a nice one, belongs to "Rance", I think.
