I just bought a flexible rubber antenna with a long cable of ebay and mounted it further front. It literally took 30 minutes, and I am glad to have gotten rid of that metal mast that always bends or breaks.

Thanks guys.

For clarification, I provide a copy of the template.

I've brought in prbably 35+ of these things now and everything has been consistant.
The guys I order from have gotten the order 100% correct everytime.
It takes a bit of time to get them in but I think the wait is worth it.

As for the antenna, and someone who has done the mod (I have a RHD 80) can maybe speak better to it, but you have to either relocate your factory antenna by a couple of inches OR get a splitter (Harbour Freight?) and have your antenna internally. Probably 80% of the 30+ snorkels I've shipped out have been for North American models so there is no doubt a way to do it and I hear it's easy when you have all the tools out for install anyway.

Jeff,
Was it you I got the OEM snorkel from?
It came with the 70 top, is it possible to get the OEM 80 top?

It was me, I believe I responded to your email this morning?

Hit me up at whosthecoolguy@hotmail.com if you didn't get it!

I think I might have one for you.

I purchased an OEM snorkel from Jeff about a year ago and had a great experience. Bolted right up using the template he supplied.

Not going to debate which snorkel looks better, OME / OEM, they'll find the right home on respective rigs.

As for the antenna, the OEM snorkel body covered the stock antenna hole, no need to fill it. I ran a Firestik splitter for FM radio and CB and attached a 4 foot Firestik antenna to the back of my 4x4Labs bumper. Works great, even though I use my HAM most of the time.

Thanks for the feedback on the antenna DMOZ

Can you post part numbers when you get a chance?

I want to compare them to my list as well as against the 7x series to see if there is any cross-pollination.

:)

Do those OEM toppers have any kind of filter or screen? I'm trying to decide if I like that bulbous 80 one, but I am worried about the size of it and branches catching on it while wheeling in the wet coast forests.
I like them because they are different vs. the safari model that "everyone" else, but the one nice thing the safari has it that the topper can be reversed so nothing catches on it, or less chance anyways.

Jeff,

There is no filter or screen on the OEM unit.

I "believe" the inside of the topper looks similar to the smaller, cone-shaped 70-series' topper, more or less.

I like mine (OEM) just because it stands out, but it might get cumbersome if I had to worry about it catching or getting ripped off from a branch, even though you can fight them off a little in your JDM 80. ;)
