The tire compound seems softer on the Wild Country which is why it wears so fast.
But does the softer compound give better traction in snow and ice?

I was on glare ice at a parking lot trying to do doughnuts with the Wild Countrys but I had no luck as I had to much traction.

Use more lube on the donuts :flipoff2:

I run 2 sets of tires on my vehicles. Always have, so a second set of rims makes finacila sence since I'm not constantly remounting and balancing the tires which takes a tole on them.

Last year I bought a set of ProComp X-Terrain. Had a trip through some mountains last year right after I got them. Best damn tire I've had in the snow period. Thats from 20 years of driving in field service, which I don't get a choice of when to drive or not to. In the 315 size I got them delivered for 720.00 IIRC for 4 tires. I got them through an EBAY ad from a company down in Jacksonville FLA., Nikki was the e-mail contact. These are directionalized tires fully siped and not that much louder than my BFG AT/Kos.

I've got BFG AT/Kos with 85k on them mounted on Factory alloys and the ProComps mounted on factory steels. Whenever those Ats die I'm going with the ProComp ATs based on how much I like the X-Terrains.

I've been in the middle of blizzards with those things and never felt safer behind the wheel in that situation. If I had to run only one tire all year that tire wouldn't be too hard to take as far as noise and handling on dry pavement.

About the handling charicteristics of the LT vs P rated tires:

I hated driving the 80 before it got the 285/75-16 Firestone Destination MT tires on it. The big white marshmallow wallowed in corners, pushed through every steering situation, and was generally lack-luster to drive. This was with OE michelin tires.

The instant those LT destination's were put on there it was like driving an entirely new truck. Steering response was crisper, the truck cornered better, and I liked they way it rode better as well. I'll never put P rated tires on that cruiser again.

In fact, I'm replacing a perfectly good set of 31's on my FJ60 for the same 285/75-16 LT Destinations next month, that's how much I like them.

I asked a 4x4 shop today about the Xterrains vs the BFG AT for driving on ice, he said the BFG AT would be a better tire. I didn't ask the price for the Xterrains. I gusee I should of.

I found the ProComp Xterrains in 285 for 555.97. Thats $139 a tire.
Is that a good deal?

IF YOU CAN'T FIND IT CHEAPER ANYWHERE ELSE, THEN THAT WOULD LEAD ME TO BELIEVE IT IS A GOOD DEAL FOR THAT TIRE :princess: :flipoff2:

My plan is/was to use the nonLT "P" Cooper Dis ST for daily Walmart use.
Get a second set of rims for my mullet tires when I go off road ( yea right, like I will ever have free time to have fun any more!!!)

Is anyone doing this?
Does the extra cost of two sets of tires and wheel pay for its self over time with the $2.07+ gas?

I run 2 sets BFG T/A and Swampers. !7" rims on T/A's load D 3525# for the street with little side wall flex. 16" on the Swampers with a lot more flex aired down.

Pros 1 set that is quiet, ride nice, steer nice, look good, and stay balenced.
The other set wheel great and I dont care where I go (see pic) :flipoff2:

Cons PITA to change - tires are big and heavy. Where to store the extra set.

I dont look at the savings in MPG. But your tires last longer I would never let my tires look like the swamper if they my DD :princess:

2 sets is the way to go if you wheel your s***
