I ordered it direct. I’m a Grom reseller. I didn’t want to start a group buy until I had first hand knowledge of the product. I will be installing another 2 units in the next couple weeks. I’ll keep everyone posted if I have any issues. So far, I just don’t like tethering my phone every time so I purchased a HUM obd2 dongle with WiFi other than that, so far learning the little quirks has been fun. I’ll do a better update soon for people that want info on the good and the bad.

Please keep us informed...very interested for my ‘19 LC.

I work in electronics distribution, so I know resellers usually have some product roadmap insight.... Any idea when they may be going to an Octo-core, more RAM and a newer Android distribution?

I had a 12v. Car Audio Shop for 7 years. Believe me, the factory head unit is the bottleneck here. When we integrate IOS and Android, this is a problem. I’m honestly impressed it works as good as it does. Ram and faster processing can always help but, not even a thing imo. I like how the Grom is basically a “Tablet” so it’s firmware is upgraded over the air. I think the most important thing is that we post a “known issues” list. Just so everyone is informed. This unit is for the person that desires something much better but, not without glitches.

Do you have a part number for the 08? Plugin Apple car play has always been something I want for our long trips. My Bluetooth module for music streaming is completely dead and I need to get it out of the truck.

'08 and interested here too. Is Android Auto functional via wireless?

Interested when 2020 and wireless support show up.

Has anyone confirmed this works for 2008 LX?

I got the alert from Gaia as well. That is a game changer! Although the definition on the MFD may not be so conducive to using it for much.

Well, I heard back from Grom regarding my defective unit. They did give me a full refund, but were unable to replicate the issue in house but are "looking into it further". Sounds like they did a bench test and were unable to replicate the issue. Makes me worry that there is an unknown compatibility issue with my 2016 stereo and the Grom. I know some pre 2016 forum users have gotten it to work. Have other 16+ owners tried it successfully?

Could be a messy group buy if there are issues with the 16+.

I spoke with Beatsonic and there is no plan to make a CarPlay solution for the Landcruiser. They also admitted that it is very difficult to integrate an aftermarket device into the OEM system without running into some bugs/glitches. It takes quite a bit of effort and the ability to have the vehicle in-house for testing.

The same Grom unit for the LC also works for some Lexus vehicles (forget which ones). Beatsonic has a model that works for the same Lexus vehicles. Wonder if it may work on the LC....

I just ordered my Grom Vline2 for my 2013. It should be here by end of the week. I will do my best to document the install, setup and tips &tricks in a separate thread. A few things I will be focusing on are:
  • Carista Android OS App functionality/communication with Carista ODB2 Interface
  • Icom RS-MS1I Android OS App functionality for controlling the Icom ID-5100a HAM Radio
  • Apple CarPlay functionality and responsiveness
    • Waze responsiveness
    • Spotify sound quality
  • GaiaGPS CarPlay functionality vs GaiaGPS Android OS App funtionality
  • SwitchPros Android OS App functionality
  • Webex/Zoom Android OS App Functionality
  • Streaming Android OS Apps
    • DirecTV
    • Netflix
    • MLB.tv
  • APRSDroid Android OS App Functionality
  • GoPro Android OS App functionality and connectivity range for cameras mounted on vehicle exterior/roof rack etc.
  • Escort Live Android OS App for Escort 360Max radar detector
If anyone has messed around with any of these on the Grom, let me know so I can eventually pick your brain.

They said it would not.

I’d be in on a group buy. I’d buy 3-4 for stock
