My local farm/ranch store sells metric bolts (grade 8.8) by the pound . Most bolts on the Toyota are a M6x1.00 or M8x1.25 thread, which is super-common. The bulk bolts will have a slightly larger, non-JIS head (i.e., the M8 bolt will use a 13mm socket instead of the JIS 12mm socket), but they'll thread right in. I have a ton on these generic bolts in my rig.

Good to know. I'll grab a couple from my local hardware store to see if I can get a match.

I have bags and bags of assorted metric bolts in my tool cabinet now . I'm so used to metric stuff that I'll use metric fasteners on non-automotive applications now.

We don't have a farm/ranch hardware store on the coast, but we do have a samall mom/pop hardware store that has an entire, both sides of a row dedicated to only "loose" fasteners, brass, SS, iron, plastic, zinc, metric, imperial, any length, bolt configuration, e.g.: flat head, socket head, hex, etc. Yeah, Lowes is cheaper if I'm getting larger quantities of of things, but for "ons'ies" or just a mixed couple of whatever. Also it's only two blocks from my home. I love this store, been going there for over 35 years! I know the owner and staff, It's kind of like the hardware store from the show Home Improvement that Tim the Tool Man would go and hang out at.

We have one of those too - it's an Ace franchise, but has been in business for 50+ years. I buy almost all of my Milwaukee tools from them, and occasionally get nuts/bolts when I need just one. They are about the same price as the big box hardware stores for most other purchases, but vastly quicker to get in and out of. And they carry other stuff like grills/smokers, Yeti coolers/cups, GCI Outdoors rocking camp chairs, etc.

Totally OT - but when building our house, I found I could often get bulk products for the same price or cheaper from my local mom-and-pop lumber yard (which is also an Ace franchise) than from the big box stores. They had direct relationships with the distributors and what must have been a small markup - we were basically just paying them to deal with the distributors and get stuff delivered to the site. It was also really nice dealing with the same counter guy as opposed to 4-5 different people like at the box stores.

The hardware store near me is a smaller chain. Ohly a few locations in the region. It's priced well enough to avoid having to drive about an hour to home depot.

Yeah, ours is a small ACE chain, Denaults Hardware. Only about 3 or 4 stores.

Found my box of bolts and such from my running boards. Decided to do a test fit on one of the brackets so I can replicate them across the other spots.

Any idea what they torque specs are for these bolts?

For those, I’d say “gutentight” but actually 13 ft-lbs.

HAH! I took them off to paint them. I'll post up some pictures of the final product once I've completed it.
