Didn't cross my mind actually. LOL

Wildpeak AT3W in 265/70r17 are what I ended up with and extremely happy with them. Very similar to the KO2 in winter performance that my Baja Taco came with a long time ago. The AT4W is slightly larger and heavier then the AT3W so if you want to fit the spare in stock location and have 5 tire rotation the AT4W will not work from the posts on here. The AT3W just barely fits and it is a struggle at that

Nearest Lexus dealer to me is more than 2 hours away so don't see many GX's around here, but noticing a few here and there. Sunday was at Home Depot and when I went back out to the truck a new 460 was parked next to me, lifted with 275/70r17 Wildpeak AT4W. I may have had a little bit of jealously seeing how it sat ~2" taller than me then realized he didn't have a spare, there is no way it would have fit. And I'm not running without a spare in the places I go and also not messing up entry to the rear window or barn door with a swing out on a DD. I got over it finally. Maybe...

Nothing wrong with sticking with what you know works for the environment that you typically run in either. In fact something to be said for it IME.

I will gladly give up some tire life for snow and ice traction in fact it is pretty much required if you want winter traction and I am OK with that. I plowed through more than 2 feet of snow and ice in my driveway a couple of months ago with the AT3W's and the GX didn't skip a beat.

IIRC the Recon Grappler is the replacement/update for the Terra Grappler in Nitto's lineup. A buddy of mine put the recons on his Grand Cherokee since he has terras on his FJ and is pleased with both.

I've been running Mickey Thompson Baja Boss since February and am very impressed. They make a little more noise than the Pirelli ATs I replaced, but it's more that you start to hear the tire noise at a lower speed vs the total volume. Cruising along at 75 mph the volume is about the same between both tires and we just did a series of 12 hour drives to Florida and back with no complaints from me, the wife, or the dog.
I've only done 1 off road trip on them but they seem to be very, very good at everything there. We found a mud pit which immediately got the FJ with terra grapplers and a TRD OR Tacoma on K02s stuck with mud packed tires. I drove through the same spot with the GX a couple of times and would just slowly paddle through. I consider that a huge win for the Mickey Thompsons (and MTS mud/sand) since that kind of deep, thick mud is one of the Achilles' Heels of most all terrains.

Do you think the Terra Grapplers are more noisy than the Ridge Grapplers? Half of the reason for picking the Ridge Grapplers was noise and on-road handling performance since we do a lot of road trips.

Look into the General Grabber ATX. I had those on the GX and they were amazing in the rain and snow.

How are they on pavement and noise level?

The AT3W's are now on my short list to check out with my local tire shop or order through Tire Rack. It'll be down to price on any of these non-Ridge Grapplers if order for them to win the contest against the Nittos lol. I'm still leaning towards the Nittos but I'm still doing my research. I just flat out love these Nittos. I've literally never had any tire regardless of all season, all weather or all terrain last as long as these. It's hard to argue getting a legit 48-52k miles out of a set of AT tires. Granted the last 5-7k miles have shown just how bald they are but they were pretty well useable even up to 42-45k miles. You cannot ask for a better result from a set of tires. I always have had bad luck with tires but so far the last 2 sets of Nittos, these and the Nitto Motivo's on my last Dodge Charger R/T have been phenomenal tires.

I assume the Terra Grapplers and Recon Grapplers should be quieter since they are ATs and the Ridge Grappler is the RT/hybrid. I have no experience with the Ridge Grappler to compare, I just know that my buddy has had no issues or complaints with either the Terra or Ridge Grapplers, aside from his FJ getting understandably stuck in a dumb mud pit.

10-4.

The General ATX is super quiet on the pavement. I've had Ko2s, Falken AT3W, and Cooper AT, and hands down the General ATX was the best in rain/snow. On pavement, the Falkens and General were equal.

If the generals ran in 37x12.50r18 I would have already ordered them.

Finally made my decision on the next set of tires. A little over $1.200 later and I'm all set. I can say these are just as quiet if not a little more quiet than the Ridge Grapplers.

I'm also going to change it up and redesign a phone holder. The current spot is getting way too much heat from the sun and causing my phone to get so hot it disconnects carplay.

Great choice.

Finally got out in to the mountains today with the girls. What a great day. Got to finally use 4LO going up a very steep off camber incline. Saw a half dozen golden eagles as I did it. I didn't get any videos on the dashcam of it annoyingly.

A couple of nice pics from my old ass iPhone 8.

Do you keep a set of binoculars in your rig?
We have a small medium sized pair that we keep hanging on the seat back. Never know when there's something really cool, just beyond our vision!
