Let's post up where we like to eat in various cities so that we can spread the love - restaurant style. Tell why if you have a specific reason. Lots of us travel the state and would like to see these recommendations, and they also clue some of us in to some local places we've missed.

Kernersville: Jpeppers http://www.jpeppers.com
They support local farms and producers, and their menu is great. Not highfalutin at all. I've only eaten brunch and lunch there but I'll be back.

Durham: Bull McCabe's http://bullmccabesirishpub.com
Get the Carpetbagger Burger if you need to stockpile some calories - fried oysters on an excellent cheeseburger. Everything I've tried (most of the menu) has been very good, but the daily dinner special is always something great. The chef will come talk to you if you order it and it's not absolutely slammed. Very good draft beer selection, too. I can't remember what the last great special I had there was but I was VERY skeptical until it arrived. I paid one of my employees to eat there the next day because the chef told me he'd make it for him if he asked. Scallops with giant crawfish (or small lobsters), shrimp, corn cobs, etc in a sweet potato bisque, if I recall. i think I have a picture...I'll look later and update.

Charlotte: Growlers Pourhouse http://www.growlerspourhouse.com
Sausages! A very small menu but very good. Great Reuben sandwich, according to my wife. Really good beer selection and an old school beer engine to serve it.

Best burgers in Charlotte are at Bad Daddy's. Two locations: East Blvd and Ballantyne. Full bar at both. Pretty good beer selection as well. Their burgers are ground locally so they can offer medium all the way to well done. Most places don't ask how you want your burger because they use pre-ground frozen meat and by law all they can do with that is cook it well done. There you have it...a recommendation and a lesson on the legal aspects of ground beef. Thank me later...

Baba Ghannouj in Cary - best Middle Eastern food in NC! No alcohol.

Sosta Cafe, downtown Raleigh - breakfast and lunch. He uses the best ingredients (his prosciutto di parma is awesome) to make simple, flavorful southern European food.

Calavera - downtown Raleigh. Empanadas and tequila!!!!!

Guasaca - Raleigh, Lake Boone Trail. Super-yummy arepas, and Bottle Revolution is next door. Grab a pint from BR and sit outside.

Caribbean Cafe, north Raleigh. Authentic and very good Dominican and Puerto Rican food.

Beaufort grocery is good, circa 81 in Mhc. Ruddy duck is not bad for burgers wings and some occasional fresh catch.

Providenciales, Turk & Caicos: http://daconchshack.com/Conch_Shack/Home.html
Right on the water, like everything else good there, but so damn good. We went twice and ate almost everything on the menu. Picnic tables and palm trees are all you have for amenities, other than some awesome HOT sauce. Sarah was actually too full for ice cream both times.

Haus Heidleburg in Hendersonville, NC for really excellent German food. Run by a first generation German immigrant. Very good!

The Bavarian Chef in Madison, VA. It's on 29 about 30 minutes north of Charlottesville. Possibly my favorite place I've ever eaten, and the servers know every detail about everything on the menu. There's another location in Fredericksburg of 95. That should be enough of a reason to visit Iron Pig.

I'm also a huge fan of Perky's in Alta Vista, VA (also on 29). It's about 15 minutes south of Lynchburg. Small town, little place, huge variety, everything done right. The sign is a giant VA license plate that says PERKY'S. It's the only business on the roadside for a ways in either direction. Great full bar and beer list, too.

The only bad thing about these places is that they're only 2 hours apart so it's hard to get them both in one trip.
