Well since our first 80 is "perfect" I haven't gotten to work on it at all, so I get to dive into 80 series' with this '93. There are a few little problems I would like to get sorted out, and since I am unfamiliar with the 80 series and my FSM is further away than the computer, I figured I would ask here first to see if anyone else has had these problems and the solution to them.

Problem #1
Both of the exterior rear-view mirrors are extremely wobbly, (the mirror itself, not the body). The electronic control does not move them. I assume something is loose/disconnected inside?

Problem #2
Rear DS window used to work, but 2 days ago when I was rolling it down it quit moving halfway, so I thought I better get it back up if I can, it jerked 3/4 of the way up, and then I was able to "help" it to within 2 inches of closing. It is precariously resting at that height now. I am no good with power windows (40's don't have them  ) but I assume the window, or window arm-deals that raise the window are off-track or something.

Problem #3
Front PS window does not move up or down, when controlled with either the DS or PS switch. The voltmeter does not dip, indicating that the window is not stuck or the like. I assume it may be a disconnected lead, or bad motor, etc...

Question #1 - This applies to both Problem 2 and 3, I won't really be able to know whats the matter with either window until I open up the door panels, however, I hate dealing with those damn plastic clips, is there a "good" or "easy" way to pull the panels? Any tricks?

Question #2 A buddy has a bunch of leftover dynamat (really $$$ sound dampening stuff). While I have two of the door panels off, any opinions on whether it is worth bothering with the dynamat? Its not free to me, so its not a "just try it and see how it works" kind of deal.

Lots of questions, I know, but I appreciate any help, ideas, tricks, experience that ya'll have to offer as I begin to fawk up s***e on the 80 as well as the 40. :D

On the mirrors. I'm guessing also that the connection in-side has come loose. To lessen the 'wobbly-ness' of the glass you can tighten the screw accessable through a hole in the bottom of the mirror trim.

On the Dynamat- It's HEAVY stuff. if you aren't worried about weight, you can cover any and all available surfaces with it, it does help a LOT with road noise and isolating speakers..

Your window is prolly off the track. It was discussed a week or two ago. Search the archives for the specific thread. I had it happen on a LC I used to own -- it was stuck at the same height.

Along with the stuff you check, take a look at the wiring from the driver's side controller box. I had a broken/cut wire in my driver's side door that controlled my front passenger window.

Just pull carefully. I had the driver's side panel off a few times (as well as the PS rear door). The driver's side door has 3 larger screws you need to remove first -- 1 under the top of the pull handle and two hidden under the armrest cover.

'Preciate it guys. I'm probably gonna tear into the DS rear window tonight, since it can be necessary to have the window closed.

I hate road noise more than I hate weight (spend enough road trips in a 40 and you will too) so I think I will go ahead with the dynamat.

Cruisin, the 80 is a lot quieter than a 40. I'd vote to forget about the dynamat unless it was free, which you said it wasn't. Focus on the other stuff and don't be :princess: :D

I bought a cheapie door panel puller at Autozone, per suggestions on this list. Simple, works well, probably shoulda just made one now that I see what it is, kinda just a fork.

I may go pick one up, last time I was popping door panels off I was killing about 1 out of 3 plastic panel clips.

Hey Cruisin...I am with these guys on the rear window being off the track...easy fix. I had the same issue on mine but it was due to an improperly mounted window after some tint work. I had to reset the track on the window which was a little less fun.

Another vote on the wobbly mirrors fix. Just tighten them up from underneath.

Door panels are easy, gentle force, I usually use a wrecking bar to slide under and ease them out. The plastic barrier inside is not too bad, and if the dynamat is free use it.

That is all =)
