So, I said I had news and wasn't expecting it to take this long to be official, but I was finally able to give notice at work yesterday and have taken a job in Charlotte! This is part of the reason I have been so absent lately and I was actually checking out the area the weekend of Meet and Greet on my way back from M school to see where I may want to live. Anyway, I am trying to get my house in Raleigh on the market, so that will determine my actual move date. I am really excited and those that know me will understand how HAPPY I am to be changing jobs. The great news is that I am still going to be in NC and will actually get to hang out with the Charlotte crew now. The bad news is I will have to leave the Raleigh crew and that is going to make me very sad. And NO, I am NOT selling Pappy. :) Anyway, any advice from you guys down in Charlotte is welcome.

Awesome, now we can get our drink on.

How did I know you'd be first to reply to this? :) The bourbon barrel will be coming with me, locked of course. Haha. Definitely looking forward to some bourbon drinking with you and @JohnVee!

the gallery in Ballantyne will be your best friend. Also heist and whiskey warehouse for random pappy showings

We went to SC when I was down last and I found some darn good bourbon there!! They don't have the awful NC state liquor laws down there.

Welcome to charlotte. If you are looking for a house, i have one for rent 3 miles from downtown charlotte and close to light rail.

Leaving the house I've been renting in Chantilly soon, close to uptown (very close to Whiskey Warehouse). Nice little neighborhood that you can walk and about 3 miles to downtown (uptown) CLT.....I'll send you the info if you like. Congrats.

I've lived in the Charlotte area all my life. There are much worse places to live. The roads and traffic are terrible here though. Being the Capitol, Raleigh gets all the State highway dollars. I don't know what your housing goals consist of but if you are buying and not renting, I would suggest looking outside of Charlotte proper to avoid the City taxes which are highway robbery. If you can manage a little longer commute, try to keep out of Mecklenburg county as a whole...again high Meck taxes. York County, SC is an easy commute and taxes are very reasonable. Also, Union County, NC is a nice place to live and taxes are much better than Meck. That's where I am, Matthews/Weddington area. Weddington is the wealthiest city in NC (even though I bring the average waaay down) and the schools are top notch, but that won't be a concern if you don't have kids. The only real downside to Union County is traveling I-485 into town. Gaston county has a reputation for being "redneck" but it is getting better all the time. You can get alot of house for your dollar there and the commute is not bad at all. A lot depends on your actual work location. If you will be working downtown (the Charlotte fan club calls it "uptown" for no apparent reason) your commute will be much different than if you will be North in the University area or South in the Ballantyne area. Good luck with your search, and again, welcome!

:( We're gonna miss you here in Raleigh, but I am sure you'll like that job a whole lot more in Charlotte.

Congrats!!!

To add to what Dave said, Lancaster County in SC is not bad either. Straight down 521 from Ballantyne. This area is growing like crazy ....

Congrats on the new job! I cant help ya, I live in wayyyyyyyy south Charlotte. 45 mins to the airport from here

Thanks all for the info! I'm going to be doing financial svcs consulting for Ernst and Young so when I'm not traveling, I'll be downtown in the BofA building. I'd prefer to not live very far from downtown and the airport and really am over yard work and won't have time for it with all the travel I'll be doing so either townhouse/condo would probably be best. I am undecided on buying or renting and it will probably depend on what I find and when I sell my place in Raleigh (Ben-its right off Chamberlain St near Cameron Village). I really really want a garage. I know SC is a lot cheaper but for where I have to work, I'm a bit worried about the distance and commute. For those of you that have rentals, PM me some details! I am fairly open as I don't know the area that well.

With ease to downtown and airport i'd look at the neighborhoods popping up around mt island lake and the WWC. Very nice.... about 10 minutes to the airport 15 to Uptown and most importantly NO CRAZY CHARLOTTE TRAFFIC!!!!!

Gonna miss you Joanna! I'm sure we'll see at club get togethers throughout the year.

Cheers!
