I have the MT/Rs on my FJ40 and the KM2s on my mini truck. Love them both. They're both great tires and have done very well in the mud, on the rocks, and on-road.

I've ran the MTR's on my last rig, and now Mickey Thopmpson MTZ's. The MTR did alittle better job holding the truck on wet rocks, but the MTZ has a softer rubber compound.

Both outperformed my old (circa 1999) BFG muds. I've only driven the prototype set of KM2's from BFG, so I am not a good source at how well they work.

Also: I wouldn't run Irok swampers if they were free.

Irok's are great!......great for trailer queens because they dissolve on the pavement and they are like $500 apiece.........I run LTB swampers they suck on the road but kick @$$ in the mud/rocks and they are cheap and indestuctible.......and dont give me the "Made in Asia" routine cause so was our trucks.....damn Jeep guys pull that one all the time! LOL btw I DONT KNOW ABOUT BFG'S OR GOODYEARS I WENT STRAIGHT FROM stock size Douglas Range Riders(ha) to LTB's

I had MT/R on my xcab.

I have MT/KM on the 4Runner.

I have MT/R on the FJ40.

Get what you can find and afford.

P4W&OR did a MT test with swampers, boggers and the likes. MTR came in 3rd IIRC.

Downsides are they suck in hard braking and rain.

I choose between swamper SSR's and goodyear MTR's on my last tire purchase, I agree with pappy, you have to go with what you can afford and what works for your area.

I can never understand when you look at tire prices, why do 33's go for 200 a tire.....35's for around 235 a tire and the 37's roll in at 325 a tire???? (goodyear MTR's on 15" wheels) why a hundred more dollars for one size larger? Then you see a set of 38x22's [gag] that are pushing around 500 bucks......there IS a lot less rubber there right??????

I chose the 35" SSR's because they are almost as tall as other 37" tires, for less money. check manufacturer's website for actual heights, you might be dissapointed. my buddies BFG 35 MT's are only 33 3/4" with a tape measure, that's measuring front to back, not including the wieght from the truck bulging them.

after all my reasearch, I think I may have shot myself in the foot, because after 10,000 miles and only one wheeling season.......I have less than half my tread left. would the MTR's have lasted longer? I will probably find out next time.

I have REALLY been impressed with the Mickey thompson MTZ's but damn, are they expensive!!

well fellas i went with the bfg km2 35x12.50x15 i was runnin 33 goodies mtr and i absolutely loved them i ran them for 6mos they did great i sold them last week because i wanted toupgrade to 35's. i was on thefence on buying the new kevlar mtr but i got a great deal on these new km2's i will post some pictures of my rig with its new shoes later on this week heres a picture ofwhat i had on before

In my opinion its all a question about where you want good tires, off road or on road? And what compromises you are willing to take.

I have run;
37 mtr
38 SSR
35 boggers
35 x-terrain
36 irok radial
39,5 irok bias
38 mtz
38,5 tsl sx
35 pro comp AT
32 bfg AT on my old DD

and within the next hour I will get my new 40x16/17 LTBs...

On road I preferred the MTZ and the SSR with the SSRs much better offroad.

Off road the SSR was good, but so far I prefer the Iroks and like the TSL SX. Hopefully I will love the new LTBs!

I will stand by the Swamper Trxus.... Pretty amazing tire! Rain, sleet, snow, pavement, mud, rock, sand, wood, and pretty much anywhere a tire would be placed they are just shy of godly. I will probably never run anything different!

out with the old

I cant believe it took til post 13 for the trxus to be thrown in! IMO the best radial muds are (in no perticular order, and varying benefits)

Trxus
KM2
Toyo
MTR

Cant really go wrong with any of them. But I do prefer the trxus to the rest. And never was impressed with MTR here in the midwest.
