I am sure you are as sick of hearing about this topic as I am researching it. Per normal I am doing a manual swap into my BJ74... which would be cool and all if I didn't have a 1989 which means I have an 8 bolt. Literally the hardest damn flywheel to come across (and i live in japan at that)

the parts vehicle i am getting is most likely a 6 bolt. we haven't been able to open it up yet and then year/month of the cruiser is basically right on the line between 6 and 8 bolt. (but I don't have that kind of luck anyway)

So in my research I have found a part number for the 13bt 8 bolt flywheel 13405-58012 (we all know it isn't there)

then I found a website saying the 3bii and the 13bt are the same (maybe they just both work) with a part number of 13405-58020 but as luck would have it... that website is the only one that has said flywheel available.

Then I started more and more and more research (pretty much researching is more work than do the trans swap)

Long story short I came across a toyota Dyna that came with a 3b.... in 1993..... and has an 8 bolt flywheel so whats the chances of that one fitting (and you guessed it.... its a different part number)

anyway long story short, has anyone ever used a flywheel from a 3bii in a 13bt (i don't mind if it is slightly smaller like the 6 bolt guys are running into)

has anyone used an 8 bolt flywheel from a dyna (3b engine)

or for that matter does anyone has some knowledge that I have found yet on some magical flywheel that exist that will bolt up?
Thanks in advance

Yea I sent them an email a few hours ago about shipping. That ad is why I questioned the dyna flywheel lol

Having done an early 3b (6bolt) swap to 15B (8bolt) I can tell you that I had a similar issue.

3 bearing mains are early 3b's and 6bolt
5 bearing mains 3b are late (3bII) and 8bolt found after 1984 so found in BJ6x and BJ7X of that year and you could also find them in Dyna100's BU42

My 6bolt flywheel had a 330mm OD where the teeth for the starter/tacho were past the edge of the pressure plate surface, but on my 8bolt 15B flywheel it was 330mm OD and the pressure plate surface went right to the OD.

Not sure if this helps but I think you'll be find provided its OD is 330mm .

You slightly confused me but I think i am on the same page as you. Basically the 3b out of the Dyna should be the larger clutch. Or am i not following what you are saying?

I have read that the 13bt clutch is bigger than the 3b but either works. I did some research and talked to a few japanese friends and still came up empty handed. 8 bolt 13bt's are not super common around here.

I did learn that the 3b's in a dyna have the same part number for a pressure plate as the 13bt but a different part number for the clutch disk itself. but that could be or a number of reasons really.

I assume the dyna trans probably has a different spline count than my cruiser so that could account for the clutch disk being different but without a clutch or flywheel in my hands it's hard to tell.

So a bit more research. Here in Japan they still sell the ring gear for the 13bt. So it is possible to just lathe up a flywheel and add a factory ring gear. Or I was reading about welding a 6 bolt and drilling it to an 8 bolt. Eh
