Maybe well get adventurious and take the FJ for that trip...? (are they capable to make it that far from TX to WY 32 hours?)

As capable as your maintenance.... If it'll drive an hour, it'll drive 32...

The question is can YOU make it that far in a 40. Some can, some can't.

Lol, I have been debating driving my fj40 back to my house in tennessee from La in the fall (1800 miles) or just ship it. If I drive it I will need a chiropractor when I get it home.

71AZFJ- yeah next year we are taking all 2 weeks of vacation and im taking my wife and daughter to Jackson, i cant wait to share the park with them, it will be awesome, im sure ill have an all new slideshow after that! I drove mine from TX to southern Utah for a week of wheeling and back last spring, no power steering, 33x10.5" KM2's. I enjoyed the trip and will do it again - I took two days each way, and only had one passenger though. I wouldn't subject anyone to riding in the jump seats in the back for that far. In fact, I took my jump seats out to have more room for gear.

I drive 500 miles in a day from AZ to Cruise Moab every year - can be done - long day

well i have atrip to georgia coming up, i thought i "might" try it out on that trip, 860 miles each way, we'll see how it performs once i start driving back and forth to work

Well the wheels I ordered "finally" came in today, however (sighs head), they didn't fit....
The backspacing the guy ordered was obviously wrong, as the guy couldn't even get the wheel face to sit against the surface it's suppose to. Not only was the wheel hitting the tie rod end, but even after they tried to tighten it down, it was hitting the caliper.

So they took the wheels off, then they tried to sell me on a 1" spacer, but the nuts to hold on the spacer were sticking out to far and again hitting the mounting surface of the wheel. After about 2 hours, they decided to let me exchange the wheels for more backspacing, (those should be in next week).

I didn't want to run with spacers, one guy said it would be okay, and another guy there said he personally wouldn't do it. Either way they took off the old tires and mounted the new tires to my old wheels for the time being.

Is buying wheels that don't hit the tie rod ends or calipers suppose to be this hard? These guys made it sound as if the FJ40 was some sort of weird jeep/truck that needed "special" equipment to make it work.

In the end they ordered me the same wheel Krager 15"X10" with -36BS... 1-1/2 inches seems extreme, but it was the only thing that would work. Am I or the tire people doing something wrong?

Here is a link that explains backspacing a little bit. I didnt read the whole thing but appears like you need 3.5" of backspacing or less depending on the wheel. I think it would be better to have 3.25" or less.

Did you put power steering on that cruiser? Why do you want 10" wide rims? To each his own but I am not a fan of 10" rims. If you are mounting 33-12.50 they will go on a 8" rim. Just my .02

edit: added link, forgot to put it in first time
