Going to remove the smog pump, do I have to do a full desmog?

Going to be replacing my power steering pump in the near future with a Saginaw kit, and am removing the smog pump to get easier access to the bolts holding the power steering pump bracket on.

I've already purchased a complete desmog kit, but don't want to do the full desmog right now as I'm still learning on how to do it properly.

Do I just cap the lines on the air cleaner when it's removed? Basically install the idler pulley and call it a day?

As my dear departed mom used to say, "you don't HAVE to do anything, except die and pay taxes".

It would work just fine the way you propose, but if you're removing the air pump you might as well remove the air injection rail and nipples off the head and replace them with plugs. IMO, most of the benefit of a complete de-smog is to get rid of the EGR, but you can always do that later.

If you do it half-way it will run like s***. The smog systems are integrated. Read the threads on how to properly desmog and do it all at once, since it's very little additional work if you're already removing the Pump and Air Rail and plugging the holes.

If you don't destroy/damage the Air Rail removing it, (LOTS or Kroil and heat and patience) it'll be worth $
