For $69 I’ll happily source any hardware that’s needed. It won’t be as plug and play since my headlight wiring is no longer stock… but it beats wiring all of it from scratch.

I’d be inclined to wire it to as close to the alternator as reasonably possible. The more stock wiring it goes through, the less juice the glow worms get.

Took the silly new dog to the vet tonight for blood work for a future spaying, new lights preformed perfectly couldn’t have asked for anything more.

I ordered some. Curious if they'd fix my current no indicator issue, but the new headlights will probably show up first, and I don't want to fix the indicator twice.

Suppose I could check if there's any voltage there at all but, I probably won't.

If I get an inspection I suspect I'll have failed long before they get to the high beam indicator

Could well be.

On our older cruisers the high beam indicator is wired to the low beams and not illuminated when the low beams are on because of the better path to ground threw the switch.

It illuminates when the high beams are selected by drawing a small amperage threw the low beam filaments to ground but not enough to light the low beam headlights.

Because we removed the bulbs and put two small relay coils in place of the light bulbs it can’t draw the same amperage threw the relay coils to light visibly anymore. It’s actually still glowing just too dim to see.

LED headlights would cause a similar issue but there might also LED diode gate issues. Worth a try though.

Stock 40 dash lights are never bright enough… and half the instrument cluster in the Ambo is in darkness.

For the 40 if you remove the covers on the bulbs inside the dash it's actually pretty bright. Among the best free fixes Ive done!

About the same brightness maybe slightly brighter and probably not very dimmable although I haven’t tried. Your a complex man wanting brighter lights but also dimmable. Haha. Toshi38 is right mine also had little coloured condoms on the light bulbs you can remove if your not worried about it being less green.

I think @Toshi38 is referring to the little metal hoods in the 40 cluster.

I removed them in the past and it makes a huge difference, haven't done it yet on this truck, but I haven't driven it in the dark enough to be bothered by it yet.

No more dimmer in the 40… never used it so I didn’t worry about loosing it when I replaced the stock light switch.

The ambulance does have a dimmer. If they are similar in brightness I’m not too worried about actually dimming them… just wouldn’t want them to fry if the dimmer was turned down or something else. I’d mostly be putting them in so I’d never have to replace them again… and because they are about the same price as incandescent bulbs these days.

The upgraded wiring harness kit for 69$ comes with:

Complete wiring harness (relays and fuses)
Bag of Zip ties and grease
Installation instructions


It’s an easy strait forward install its plug and play no cutting. Other than the high beam indicator everything works and fits great. My 60 even had convenient empty nutserts to mount the two relays. the kit can be flipped to be installed for the wires to run either side of the vehicle depending on what battery you want to wire it to.

Thank you for posting the SKU for this kit. Since this thread is not vehicle specific, I cannot tell in which vehicle you installed it. Will this work in my FJ45 or is this only for the 60? (The product description for the SKU in one of the dealer websites says it is for the 60)

Might depend on age of the 45. The old 4x series had a different light setup with a round pod in back. Not sure if it'd work there or not. Or what year the cutoff was for that change.

I have a bib like that in the shed.

Mine is a 78, and the mounts are pretty much the same as a 60, so no issues.

Looks like his is an ‘85 out of Venezuela. I’d expect that it would be the newer style housings.

I’ve ordered a set. For $69 CDN, the pair of H4 halogen headlights would cost twice that alone. I don’t expect it to be plug and play, but the principles of how the lights work will be the same. The relays, wiring, fuses, and bulbs will all work the same, the connections might not be quite as straight forward.

It’ll work with what’s left of my stock 40 harness.,, just as I’ll make it work with the aftermarket harness that’ll replace the stock one.

All you need for this kit to work is a working low/highbeam three spade female vehicle plug that usually sits on the back of the old lightbulb, a charged 12v battery and like Seapotato says the standard Toyota bulb housings. I suspect this kit might even work well for other old Toyota cars and pickups.

Yeah, anything with 7" bulbs I would think. Barring the really old stuff where any H4 would have trouble fitting.

I'll pick up mine tomorrow, maybe install if I'm feeling it.

So they can sit there mounted in the truck and never get used.

Looks like it'll work for our rigs just fine. I'd connect the (+) lead to a positive source as close to the alternator as reasonably possible to have the least voltage drop. Your current wiring will trigger the original wiring which in turn will power up the new headlights.

Looks like it's been covered already but just to confirm, I put these in my 45 last year. Install was easy.
