Newbie here, intro's later

Getting my first LC 80 2/16/07

Have to take my 4Runner and tow dollie by my self to get.

200 mi, O Trip, will be towing 4R, A.T on return trip.

Question is should I,

Disconnect my 4R's A.T's drive shaft.

Does it have to remain running in order to tow back with drive shaft still conected and in neutral?

My thoughts are to keep it running in neutral for the return trip, realisticly being towed 70-80 miles it shouldent use enough gas idling vs. labor d.c'ing then connecting shaft.

Any thoughts?

THX,

I don't know anything about a 4Runner. If it has a VC in the Xfer then you want to remove the DS of the wheels that will be rolling on the ground. I'm guessing you will put the front wheels on the dolly so remove the rear DS.

Direct disconnect differential

Depending on the year of the 4Runner you have, you may have a direct disconnect differential & your best bet is to get the front wheels on the dolly & locked in then put the whole xfer case in nuetral along with the trans. Should work like a champ. Hope that helped.

I'd pull the rear shaft no matter what. No need spinning the TC output even if it is in neutral. All that lube foaming in there. Not to mention what would happen if you hit a bump or something and it did knock it into gear. Stranger things have happened.

I think he might be another incarnation of Tardnado, but nonetheless, he is a classic troll.....

I'd pull the shaft and make sure the front wheels are off the ground....

a) not sure why he is asking about runners in thif forum but..

b) leave the tranny out of gear, the Tcase in 2wd and tow away..

Pull the rear DS if it makes you feel better.

If you do not pull the rear shaft. do NOT put it in neutral..

None of the 4Runners come with a VC in the transfer and FT 4wd? ? ?

At leat untill 2003 or so that I know of there are no AWD runners. they are selectable..

Let me check.

They do have awd (multimode) diffs starting in 2003.

So putting the front tires on a dolly and pulling the rear shaft would be the best idea.

engine running is not necessary.

I do not know where the slip shaft is on the 2003/later runners..

if it is at the tcase. There are more things to worry about.

If by "Troll" you nean having multiple knowladge of multiple Toyota 4x4's not limited to LandCruiser's then, yes, I am a "Troll"

If you guys want to act like snobs then you'll be much more "comfortable" in a RangeRover.:grinpimp:

I ask simple questions, I give information to the best of my abilities to help others, not limited to LandCruisers. (L@@K @ you might learn something) There are other Toyota 4x4's you know.

LandCruiser....HolierThanThou

ALL AT's have the same way they should be towed. In my case I did leave it running , ideling for the 1hr return trip with the DS attached.

2MK as long as the internal pump is lubricating by the engine running, and the pump is not beeing towed with engine off.

Not DCing my DS cost me $2. I am lazy, you pull it for a dollar!

I have owned too many Toyota trucks to even list, I am not a Doctor or a Lawyer, I did not just go out and buy a HolierThanThou, and sitting around the house bored join a club.

THIS is where I stand sorry to offend, could you pass the GREY PUPON?:D

*All* A/T do NOT have the same way they should be towed.

I would recommend that you learn more about the drive train of your new-to-you 80-Series before you try the same thing with it.

The only thing new to me is making sure the front wheels are off the ground when I put it on the dollie, "multi mode" is not AWD, all AT's do have the same way to be towed(You mean TC^^^^Dont you), and"Depending on the year of the 4Runner you have, you may have a direct disconnect differential & your best bet is to get the front wheels on the dolly & locked in then put the whole xfer case in nuetral (:) :) :) this locks the TC frt.2rear:) :) :) ) allong with the trans. And I apperently have some sort of wood shavings on my shoulder.

Seriously, I love hearing your comments and I obviously needed an opinon.

This was a quickly put together, thus I needed an answer.

The funny thing is the confidence, I usually look for confidence in a reply.

I'm having a blast here, thanks for all your answers and trying to help.
