Greetings from the 60-series board. I am looking at purchasing an 85 BJ70 with a turbo 3B/H55 trans. What is the stock R&P on this vehical? 4.10? Did it come with 2.4:1 low range like the BJ42LX did? I am interested in turning 33" tires, but live and drive in the mountains, oftens with heavy loads. Perhaps 31s are best. Thanks, Winslow

first all CDM diesel 4* series came with 4.11 gearing in the diffs (unless someone changed them out). the 2 piece cases behind the 4* sereis had the 1.96 (unless changed out)...
cheers

my bad, for some dumb reason thought the question was about 4* series...
the 70 sereis came with 3.7 from the factory as Seth said...

Split case 4 speed BJ42s had 2.276 gears for low range.

There ir interesting stuff about Split cases low range .. coz I thought mine HJ-60 BF1A comes with 2.28 but not .. come with 1.96 ..

I'm never sure about that ..

I *believe* here in Canada the HJ60s with autos had the lower T-case gears too?

For ther original poster, my BJ70 has 33s and I run 4.56 gears and it seems about right to me. With the turbo I'm sure you would be fine with a set of 4.11s. Or you could keep the 3.7s and throw in a set of Mark's under/under T-case gears and run 33s...

As Norm said, all Auto's came w/ 2.28 Tcase gears...so did all H41/42's. The H55's came with 1.96

I run 35 MTR's w/ 4.56 R&P and the Marks 2.82/0.92 overdrive gears in the T-case and my gearing is spot on stock and my speedo is accurate

with 31's (7.5 x 16) and 4.11's my speedo is right about back to stock.

actually, you are correct. the 81/82 BJ60/42 had 2.76 low range...
as did the auto 62 series...
