For those not wanting a heep seat in their Land Cruiser. I found this on CCOT it sounds like you want but only 2 rear spots.

Yeah Alex...I am still seeking other avenues...there is another place ...but...its like pulling teath to get new stuff done...you would think the way things are they would try to get as much buisness as possible.

Interesting - I wonder what CCOT uses to justify +$200 on that Bestop seat? Lap belts? And if they went to the trouble of adding restraints, I would have liked to see at least a 3 pt harness.

Johnny: A seat like the one you have shown for around $200 would be of interest to me. I assumed the $200 figure based on the smaller one being $145. I added myself to the poll.

I like the idea of three lap belts integrated into the seat. Kid latches are fine, but not a deal killer with me either way.

I've got some mounting legs that I'm not convinced are original.

those two silvery things are not mounting legs but brackets for armrests

Johnny C who makes that seat in the first post, if they make smaller ones it looks like a good replacement for jump seats.

I want to take the short style jump seats and rework them to be foraward facing, but still fold up like the jump seats normally do. That would provide forward facing seating in the rear. I don't really want a full bench seat, that can't get out of the way fully.

While looking at options for my plan I came across these: Defender & Series Load Area Seats The lock and fold seat at the bottom has a stand alone and integrated shoulder harness. The seat bottom folds up and then the seat rotates towards the wall. These are tested for regular highway use. From what I could find on the net, they are pretty easy to insall in a defender. I think the wheel wells are pretty similar between a defender and 40. But I don't know about head room with that seat in a 40. Quite a bit of conversation about them in Rover forums, but I never saw a real good picture of one installed. They are very pricey though, several hundred apeice, but perhaps the ultimate solution for a truely highway safe seat in the back of a 40. But space wise, I don't know if you gain much. I wish they had a tad lower back, for visibility reasons.

But there are other options on that page for more traditional jumpseats. But they all match rover seats, and don't look all that well made, (kind of like a rover) so I'm opting to build my own. Look up rover jump seats for other options out there too.

There are also other versions of the lock and fold seat for buses in europe. I found a few variations while looking on the net, with integrated seatbelts. They are for situations where an area of a bus may need to be opened up for a wheel chair or something.

I think I saw the same seat, at the beginning of this thread in Northern Tool. Not a bad option, really, could be made to tumble.

With the seat mounted on the top of the fender. How would you get the baby carseats out?

MoCoNative - I'm with you on re-working the short-style jump seats to be forward facing, but still fold up and out of the way. I ran one of the old Confer bench seats and hated to lose my cargo area. With all the mad fabbing skills of guys here on Mud, I'm really surprised that someone hasn't come up with a solution like this already. Another similar idea I've had is to modify the 80 series third row seats since they're already forward facing and have seat belts, etc. Thoughts?

60/40 split for the front would be what i would be after. help give the forty road trip comfort.

CruiserStuff, will the 80 series seats phisically fit in the back of a 40??? Your sig says you have one, do you have the seats. They would be a good option, only issue with them is putting suffecient hardware in the floor of a 40 to allow the legs to lock down properly.

That is the catch to a seat with integrated seat belts. The seat mounts have to be strong enough to hold the occupant and seat during a collision. The 80 uses latches on the bottom of the two little legs that lock the seat to the floor, so that the belts are also anchored. The lock point is recessed, and probably pretty stout if you look under an 80. Also the outboard belt attachment is to the body. Reproducing that attachment is the first step in making them work.

I was just planning on rotating two jump seats. My idea is to make the seat back fold down, and then the entire settup would fold up on a new hinge mounted to the fender well. Pretty much like an 80 seat does. I have already made fold out legs for my long jump seats, as they are spaced out for a roll bar and bend. So I made the legs. I may reuse these, or make new ones. But I will need a leg as you fold the seat down to support the outside of it, in the center of the cargo area. For belts, one half can mount to the fender. The other half, probably the recievers will mount to the center of the floor. This settup of course will require a reinforced plate for each belt attachment, similar to stock. I thought of making an elastic loop or something for the edge of the seats, to hold the belts up when in use, but unbuckled. The seat blet would tie the occupant down to the floor, also holding the seat down, as the leg would not be attached to the floor. I think this will work though, the bulk of the seat would not be much, and many vehicles used a similar design to tie a person down to the floor, behind the seat. So I think it will be sound. I will have two belt recievers stuck to the floor, but I don' tthink they will be a big issue, just lay them out and stack cargo on top of them I guess, when I need to.

I'm wanting to use this settup for child seats. Lap belts, that you cinch down work best for these actually, then I was thinking of putting tie downs on the cage I want to build, to attach the top rear tether of the car seat to. Should be pretty secure, for my use.

MoCoNative - I do have an 80 (for sale though) and I'll pull the seats out and try to get some pics. It seems to me, depending on the width of the seats as compared to the cargo area in the 40 (might have to chop them down a bit), that you could fab new lock points that would bolt to the floorboard of the 40 and rework the "hinge" portion of the seat over the fenderwells. Let me get some measurements and pics and see what we can work out....

Re: your idea to face the existing short jump seats forward, didn't the LX models have a fold down seat on one side and a longer fixed bench that went part way across? How did the fold down side attach? If we could get some pics of that, we could probably recreate it.....

Maybe we should start another thread so we don't thrash this one (since it is more of a bench seat thread).....

Yes, but only if it is designed for kid's car seats

Yes, this would be something I would consider buying - if it worked for kid's car seats. It would be real nice if the seat belts could be intergrated into the design.

The back of the seat will have to be high enough to support the car seat, which is why a lot of other seats don't work. I am using an intergrated seat belt design and front buckets from a trailblazer.

They are nice and work well, but they do block the rear window and I had to install a backup camera as a result.

Hey Joe! Got any pics of the trailblazer seat set up you are using? I like the intergrated 3pts idea also. I have a TBSS i just dont wanna take the time to remove its seats to test fit haha.

Old thread back from the dead i guess...
