I smell the gas fume when I driving with AC on. I doesn't come in through the vents but if I have the window down, or stop and walk out the car I can smell it. I know is a fuel leak but is only when the is AC on. Where should I check first?

thanks in advance.

Last few times I had a strong smell of gas fumes in the cab it was because my fuel tank had the infamous crack and was leaking out.

It has been rumored on the internet:rolleyes: that a clogged canister can contribute to a fuel tank crack.

It's also been evidenced that the tanks all seem to crack in the same location and that the metal in that location is as thin or thinner than paper. I don't think that is caused by a bad charcoal canister...especially since I replaced mine the first time the tank fractured and it happened again a couple weeks later on the good used tank, and then again after that replacement (used tank) after a month or so all during winter and early spring. Never had a wooshing noise or anything prior to the cracks. I patched one tank with a tinned on copper patch over a tinned in crack and it came back. So I patched the other bad tank with some 18ga mild steel and found out just how thin the tank is in that area, used a copper spoon to back the weld and haven't had an issue in several months now...knock on wood. Anyway, sorry for the rant...just thought I'd put it out there that tank pressure and the charcoal canister were non-issues regarding the crack that seems to be becoming more common. Still good to replace though.

I had a bad Gas cap give me this issue, something to look at, the vent on it was clogged, cap replaced smell gone
