Just to clarify, I may have mislead a few of you with a comment I made about the previous owner leaving a dash mounted GPS unit in the Land Cruiser when he sold it. I imagine that he was like I am, a poor mathematician, and therefore used the speedometer feature built into the GPS unit instead of trying to do the KPH/MPH conversion in his head. The factory speedometer does in fact work fine. I am of course on the lookout for a MPH cluster with E-locker indicator lights in it, I'll be putting together a list for @beno soon and I'll make certain to see if such a unicorn exists.

I mentioned before how the dome light lenses were cooked a bit, this is what I was talking about.

The Toyota vent visors that @SteveJackson gave me really impressed me on the trail as they took a considerable amount of abuse from branches and a few smaller limbs with one of them being bent far out of shape and simply flexing right back into shape after the pressure was relieved. It surprised me when it did that as I honestly though that it was going to be cracked at the least. Very glad to have these installed.

The Trailgater fold down table project is coming along, soon I'll have all of the hardware that I intend to use and will then take the new aluminum door panel to my local powder coater and see how close they can get to the Land Cruiser grey interior.

I have a few other plans that are "in the works" right now and in time I'll get them documented here. I'm wrapping up a huge list of mods and changes to my Tacoma and once they are done, I'll be able to spend more time with the Land Cruiser.

Nice truck, really like those Hutchinson wheels. Lots of compromises, those wheels are really heavy certainly
effecting your highway speeds and acceleration. I was going to get a set but just too much unsprung weight
for daily driving let alone 5K mile road trips. The 1-HZ is an engine to think about putting a turbo on. Ask around
to some of long time owners of this engine. It can be turbo'd but it would seem most of the people I've known they
upgrade to 1HD-T for turbo power. Only hearsay on my part, just what I've heard and seen.
Enjoying the thread, keep the ideas coming.

I'll never stop saying that the previous owner most certainly handed me an excellent example to play with. I agree that the Hutchinsons are very heavy but due to the limitations I have with only one truly functioning arm I can still service the Hutchinsons by myself when out bush alone. I'm really hoping that I can talk @cruiseroutfit into letting me send them a RICO spare tire carrier to be modified or retrofitted into his new rear bumper design, or that he can make his own version of it with the ratcheting mechanism to allow me to have it for the Land Cruiser which would extend my ability to take solo trips considerably.

I will add a turbo to the 1HZ instead of the more practical plan of swapping the engine out. Many will scratch their heads and call me names but I actually waited for the 1HZ to be legal to import into the states so I could have one, No way I'm going to get rid of it. I've already put a request for quote on the required parts into the inbox of a trusted vendor to get that started.

In other news, I think the Trailgater mounts up quite nicely.

You can turbo a 1hz correctly. Pick the right turbo for your power goals, run a high quality synthetic oil and tune your truck correctly using preturbo EGTs and a wideband AFR gauge. Tip is to keep the thing under 1200f under sustained load, I have mine set to just below that for a safety buffer.

I concur as everything I'm reading says that it can be done and will work well. Since I want moderate gains I think that it will end up being far better than it is currently and I will be very happy.

Waiting on a few items to be delivered and a few invoices to arrive so that I can pay them and then progress will start again in earnest. Right now I'm just tinkering with the interior in the rear so I can mount a few camping toys. While I wait for the Trailgater panel to come back from powder coat I got a panel made for the rear so I can bolt things to it, instead of into the sheet metal tub itself.

Using the factory bolt holes the Baltic Birch plywood panel bolts down nice and secure and will make a great base for my small sliding arrangement that houses my stove and my fridge/freezer. I have some L-Track around here somewhere and I intend to add some of that to make secure tie down locations for some other gear that I take camping. Standby for more pictures later as I'm heading back out into the shop later today in the hopes of getting a few other things wrapped up.

I'm starting to turn my head to some electrical issues as I want to prevent any problems arising in the future. One thing that I was thinking about was replacing the alternator with something that produces more AMPs at idle and while driving. In my search I found this site and wanted to know if any of you have any experience with them or other upgraded alternator vendors.

I'm also interested in running a few 12v accessories and am curious as to how the rest of you have addressed the issue. I have a CB radio, HAM radio, navigation stereo, dash cam, and a couple of other devices waiting to go in and have been thinking about using this REDARC 60A switch mode voltage reducer. Soon I intend to get every devices owners manual out and actually try to add all of their peak amperages together to see if it is perfect or overkill and I can opt for a smaller model.

I haven't done mine yet, but I was planning on wiring up a separate harness for my accessories and include a dual voltage fuse box and a relay bank for items I want to be switched by the key on position. Here is a rough sketch of the plan. I haven't committed to any accessories yet, but just trying to lay out some sort of plan. I bought a blue sea fuse box and a water proof Buseman 100 amp circuit breaker to protect the whole thing. I am no electrical engineer, in fact I am a bit of an electrical duffus. I fried a stereo the last time I messed with my wiring harness, so I apologize in advance if my diagram is wrong, incomplete or outright silly. I will definitely be asking for help when I put this all together.

That looks pretty smart and is heaps more organized than I am at this point. The only fuse/relay hardware change I have in mind is to use one of the Busman RTMR waterproof boxes for added security. One thing that I will have to add is a way to charge the houses batteries on the trailer. Not worried about the controller as I have a 24v brake controller in hand already from REDARC ready to install.

As to todays activities, I'd say things were fairly productive. Sadly the powder coater still isn't done with the pile of stuff I dropped off on them with the JK Tailgater panel being one of them. The Rob Smith ARB bumper recovery points are installed now and they look great.

The birch rear deck is finished too and even though it's going to be temporary for me, I love it. Room was even made to be able to access the factory "rabbit hole" so I can keep making use of it. Two strips of L-Track were also added to give me secure tie down points for some cases that I usually take with me.

Now that this project is considered finished I need to get going on making the new rear interior side panels out of aluminum so I can have a place to mount the fridge/freezer plug and add storage doors as well as speaker mounts. I also need to keep searching for a "for dummies" guide to taking off the upper fender so I can get the new antenna and snorkel installed.

Thanks for the endorsement. :)

That Busman RTMR is pretty nice. I may need to reconsider my setup, It's so clean! That Tutorial is awesome, Thanks for posting the link to that. I just need to figure out how to run some of them at 24V. I may get a smaller 24V fuse box and also run one of these for the 12V stuff. My project is a ways off so you get to go first :) I can't wait to see what you end up with. I am also digging the wood floor idea.

I'm thinking along the same lines. Have a pair with one being for the native 24v applications and the other for the 12v accessories. I think in the end it will make upgrading and troubleshooting much easier. As far as going first, I'm going in for surgery on Tuesday and that will have me out of the shop for a couple of weeks.

Finally have the 24v air compressor I wanted in hand but I haven't sorted out the mounting location or what plumbing parts I intend to use and how much I will need. That will have to wait a bit. I've been talking to Kurt Williams @cruiseroutfit about my suspension and I am going to go with his suggestion of adding an additional leaf to the front packs and also removing the rear leveling block that the previous owner added to drop the rear end down. This should provide an additional inch of lift which will raise the Land Cruiser to 3.5". Also replacing the rear air shocks with OME Nitrochargers that Kurt offers as well.

Standing by for an invoice from @beno for some parts that he has been looking to source for me, details once they arrive.

Changed out the metal fairlead rollers for some nice poly rollers because the Warn Winch with 100' of 3/8" diameter synthetic cable is now installed along with a Factor 55 Flatlink E instead of the standard hook that comes with the winch line. I'm still thinking about replacing the non-functional ARB bumper marker lights with some LED autolamps replacements but all of the vendors I have found have notes refusing international shipments. I imagine that directly contacting one may find and agreeable seller. Better pictures to come later.

Finished the week with a trip up to Pere Marquette state park with a friend so that he could take some pictures of the 77 with a real camera. Took a few more pictures along the way back along the banks of the Mississippi river. I'll share his once he gets them to me.

I noticed that I've subscribed to this thread a long time ago and have never commented on it. Very nice looking 77, love the color, though I am a little biased hahaha

I really like the Trailgater and how you have installed it. I also like what you have done with the birch wood panel. Very similar to how I did it on my 70.

Very nice looking 77, keep us posted on updates to the truck!!!!
