Original paint color appears to be the same as the example that @1978HJ45 has, but was repainted by past owner in "Toyota Desert Tan," Which to me look like a FJ40 color. It came with a few aftermarket options such as ARB bumpers front and back, a Come-Up 24v winch, and a 20" LED light-bar.

A few changes are in store for this Cruiser to "make it mine," as it were.

I will be replacing the wheels and 31" tires with something less flashy with 33" tires. I am changing the winch to something rated a bit higher that also safely accepts synthetic rope. The 20" LED light-bar while impressive, doesn't seem to look right in my eye on a 70 Series so I'll be changing it out to some round LED lights. The OE halogen headlights are woefully dim and they will be replaced promptly.

My plans for this Land Cruiser are to enjoy the fruits of the previous owners labors and drive it, allot. I'll detail my experiences as well as the changes I make here in this thread and strongly encourage your input. While I may not heed your advice for any multitude of reasons I still greatly appreciate it as I will be learning on the run now that I am responsible for taking care of this excellently prepared edition.

I've been enthusiastic about off-road capable Toyota products since I was a teenager. My First Toyota, an 85' single cab pickup was short lived as a drunk decided to recycle it with his Buick. Not to be deterred I immediately invested that insurance check into an 86' 4Runner which I loved dearly, and even though I was a total idiot and did allot of really stupid stuff both to and with it, it never let me down until it finally couldn't survive me any longer. I killed it in a beautiful grass field in Jalisco, Mexico. And due to lack of money and common sense, enlisted a few friends that were with me to help strip what we could from it and abandoned it as it were. The farmer that I gave it to acted as if people gave him broken cars on a regular basis and that this was a normal thing. Killing my prized 4Runner was not my proudest moment but it happened and it taught me allot about not being an idiot and that even the most magnificent machines have weaknesses.

I've had a few others since then but nothing worth talking about until I bought my daily driver which is a 2011 TRD Sport Tacoma that I've been tinkering with off and on for a few years to make into a cable family camper.

Turbo, The clock is literally ticking on this one as I have put my deposit down on a new Kimberley Kamper and I intend to be able to tow it with this Land Cruiser.
I am also keenly interested in trading out the ARB rear bumper for the new @cruiseroutfit bumper that Kurt has been providing details to in this thread.

Replace all interior door card window wipe seals as a one is complete deteriorated and the rest are looking quite ragged.

Replace ARB roof basket with a roof rack.

Beautiful rig. Somebody does good work.

Nice to know that the idjits (Charles and Ward) will have company at the kid's table.

Nice rigs, nice people, who could ask for more.

I am jealous, but that's nothing new. :)

Congrats!

Keep the photos coming.

Thank you, I have to hand it to the previous owner as they gave me an excellent example. I hope to continue to make this one even better.

The previous owner left an old Garmin GPS unit to use as a speedometer. I'm still using it for now but plan to remove it later once I get a safe way to drive 12v accessories and can place a double-DIN navigation head-unit into the dash.

My second post for links will be getting updated regularly as I find time to add information. Check back there for source details.

I can easily tow campers for short distances, downhill

Why not get a new, 24v speedo? Not too hard for me to acquire. Also what are you plans for the winch?

Looks like you still have the PTO gearbox. You can get a winch head or sell the gearbox for upgrade funds.
Nice truck!
Peter

I thought about removing it but in the end decided to just leave it in place for now since it's not in the way of anything.

Curious why your not keeping the DV9? I just bought one for mine, so far I am really digging it.

I have nothing bad to say about Come-Up winches, I just wanted a 10,000lb rating and the ability to safely run synthetic rope. Multiple attempts to contact Come-Up about changing from steel to synthetic went unanswered so I decided to go foreword with the change to give me peace of mind.

I want to tackle a new main instrument panel soon as I'd really like to rely on the speedometer instead of an accessory device but I have no idea if I can source one and how to address the odometer issues that will pop up. I want to stay legal and have the odometer reflect an accurate reading. I'd really like to see one with the locker indicator lights as well. Once everyone gets back from Cruise Moab I'm sure I'll be able to start shaking parts out of their collections to help get started.

As to plans for this winch, I think that it is already spoken for by someone else who has voiced their interest in it.

Plans for the truck look great! Sitting here at breakfast with @cruiseroutfit and the DV9 Come-Up can accept a synthetic line if you want to use it. Lines in stock at Cruiser Outfitters of course :).

Are you planning an Intercooler?

I'm certainly thinking about it, but no plans have been solidified yet.

There have been a lot of clusters on yahoo auctions recently. Let me know if you're interested.

I am interested, and I will send you a PM about them later.

Ha, I should have just called you instead of trying to get an answer from Come-Up. I already ordered the new winch and I have a spare synthetic line here already. Hope everyone is having a great time and I look forward to lots of pictures when you get back.

Thanks for the link.

Little setback frustration at the Illinois license bureau today. Turns out that to register a car that was titled between specific dates in Missouri, I need a signed and notarized natural disaster disclosure statement from @SteveJackson. It was explained to me that due to the excessive flooding that some portions of the state experienced this is required. Once that is in hand it look like I'm good to go and will sadly have to retire my old Australian plate that I've been running along with the paper tag that Steve gave me from Missouri.

Unless something changes I intend to drive the Land Cruiser to Gilmer, Texas next week for the Lone Star Toyota Jamboree which will be held at the Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area. I've never been to BMRA or to a Jamboree event before but it looks to be allot of fun. If you also plan to attend the event let me know and I'll keep a look out for you.

Land Cruiser updates. I had the windows tinted and the difference inside is impressive. No more of the excessive greenhouse effect. I will be taking it back to them on Monday to get a clear UV blocking film placed on the inside of the windshield to complete the job.

When you go back to the DMV with said form and hand it to a different person behind the desk I can almost guarantee you'll get the following:

"Uh, you don't need that"

I swear requirements depend entirely on who's sitting behind the desk. Sweet ride. Good luck
