Just purchased a 1983 BJ60. (Trying like heck to get a diesel and there was one not 5 miles away here in Portland, OR--go figure). YIPEE!

Question: There is a 'G' on the front fender. I've never seen one before. Is it a model number?

Hopefully I can add some frills. I'm starting by adding a slee rear bumper w/spare.

Wayne...again, thanks for being so gracious duing my ham-handed attempt to buy the '77 BJ40.

Actually the "g" model had some frills. We got a few '81 base models and they got vinyl (bench) seats 1/2 interior door coverings, no carpet etc so the "g" model when it came out was practically luxurious with its bucket seats, console, carpet, chrome trim and updated interior.

yep, no air (unless dealer installed) no PW<PM<PDL, no sunroof, no split rear bench, no raised roof...
heck we didn't even get the barn doors...
we got what the rest of the world didn't want... even 3.7 gears in a tank...

(i know what you mean Bruce, but after seeing what we missed out on...)

oh yah, and such great colour schemes...
blue with brown interior
red with brown interior
brown with brown interior.

sometimes i think they had some left over brown stock they needed to get rid of...

cheers

Flaunting my ignorance again,

Do/did all LCs have these or just "Canadian spec"?

These as in the G. I dunno all markets but most of the markets outside of the US did get badging on the 60. Remember the US has the vent in the fender at that spot supposedly for emissions or cooling.

I like the vent it looks hightech. Not all the can spec 60's were those ugly color combo's. My 85 is silver with the grey interior and i really like it. As for the 3.70 ya they suck but an easy fix. I'd trade gas for diesel and take the ugly crap that comes with it in a heartbeat. Barn doors would be cool though where can i get some?

you are right in 85 toyota finally brought in the grey, silver, champaine etc.. up till then we got the regects...

BUT after saying that the 81s i have seen with the split vyinal front seat, rubber "carpet" and strap tie down bar in the back is still one cool rig...

Right. I knew there was something else that looked different but couldn't put my finger on it.

What are some of the other model letters that are badged?

the G was the middle level trim(and only level offered in NA), deluxe was base. the US and(most) Canadian 60's are both G trim, the US 60's(gassers) dont have it on the side because of the vents for the carb fan

I just notice that world record holders Emil & Liliana Schmid have the "G" emblem on their FJ60. That carb heating problem only happened on USA gassers?

Probably ,the unsmogged 3F has a lot more room for ventilation in the engine bay.
The LHD steering and brake booster would strangle it even more on a NA cruiser.

The pic is one of my 73 series but in a FJ60 there is even more room around the carb.

My FJ62 with a carbed 3F did not have the vents, the vents are US-spec only. The left hand side vent is the air intake for the carb cooler that was used on US smogged 2F's, the right hand side is for decoration only.

FWIW, Land Cruiser trim levels vary from market to market, what is considered one trim level in another country could be slightly different than in another.

My FJ62 has a "GX" emblem on the hatch (see attached picture, top right corner), even though the spec level is lower than a US-spec FJ62. My two FJ60's had the "G" emblem on the sides, and the trim was pretty close to the early Canadian BJ60's (A/C but no heater in my case).

You can see in the fender the G on my TLC ( uff this pic was taken a long time agoo :D )
