I thought beadlocks weren't allowed on the streets?

Not true...DOT doesn't have any rules...as far as I know.

All wheels have to be DOT approved for use on road. Very few beadlock manufacturers have that approval.

They aren't "DOT approved"

Though, you'd be hard pressed to find an actual law that prohibits them, AFAIK.

You'd be hard pressed to find someone to give you trouble over them not being DOT approved.

Unless you get into an accident, of course.

Nice conversion on the rims; but wow, Milan sure has become proud of his work. I had a set of Eagle 589s converted by Champion over ten years ago back when Milan ran the company out of his shop on his farm in Fresno. I drove down, dropped the wheels off and picked them up a week later. I paid $90 bucks a rim back then.

I've driven the same wheels on both my FJ40 and now my eighty series every day. In California, the legality of beadlocks is a non-issue. DOT only requires a manufacturers name and date stamp on any wheel. With a conversion beadlock, that information is still there. Perfectly legal. There is nothing else in the California vehicle code specifically prohibiting beadlocks.
I've been pulled over and cited for other meaningless issues like wheels sticking 1/2 inch past fenders, or having a licence plate light bulb burned out but never been hassled about the beadlocks. I even asked the inspection officer about the beadlocks when I went to have my lightbulb fixit ticket taken care of. He didn't care about the beadlocks but he did get down and measure to make sure my mudflap reached halfway down the tire.
If you want to run beadlocks on the street, don't let this urban myth about legality stop you. Its a non-issue.

Guys/Gals -

Picked up the beadlocks yesterday from Ricks Powdercoating...they did an amazing job. I put one of the wheels together so you guys can check them out...this is truly 80 Series Porn at its finest.

Excuse me while I have a moment... Those look awesome, what tires you gonna wrap them with.

Wow, thats damn sexy.

I run the same style rings on my 60 and you made a good choice leaving them polished especially if you wheel. Mine are anodized black and are scratched to s***, not that I really mind.

Also, doesnt champion advertize that their bead locks are dot approved right on their web site? I may be on crack but i thought i read it somewhere.

They do advertise that and I am not going to argue with folks that say they are not DOT approved.
