Hey guys, I did a search but didn't come up with anything. The steering wheel on my 97 FZJ80 is pretty beat. I was wondering if it's possible, and how difficult it would be to swap it with a different steering wheel. I want to keep the airbag so I'm thinking something out of another Toyota. Maybe even something with radio and BT controls on the wheel. Also, I know those controls wouldn't work with the stock radio.

I used a steering wheel out of a lexus that you can actually place your land cruiser airbag in. I then sent off my steering wheel to Texas to get recovered. It was worth it.

If you want the lexus wheel send me a PM and I will sell it to you for $50 shipped.

Pic's or it didn't happen!:blackalien:

Thanks Heckler. I may take you up on that. The Lexus wheel is pretty much the same as the Toyota one, right? Where in Texas did you send yours? I'd still like to see if I can get one out of a 4 runner, Tacoma, or something similar that has steering wheel controls. That is of course if that's even possible.

Did the same. Wheel from a LS400. I sent it to Craft Customs in Texas.

So the wheel doesn't have to be from a FZJ80 or LX450... That's what I was really wondering

The LX450 and Land Cruiser steering wheels are identical internally. All plastic surrounds are easily changed from grey to tan and all airbags will fit. The only difference is in the center logo on the airbag housing. Have a look at my steering wheel thread.
New steering wheel for the old LX

The steering wheels were the exact same. I will post some pics up tonight. I sent it to craft customs as well. I tried the leather cover thing, but was not happy.

Pics of the new steering wheel. Color is slightly off, but not enough to bother me.

Do they charge ~$350? That's what my local place wants. I guess it's massively labor intensive?

Are there any other steering wheels that would work? Like out of a 4-Runner or Tacoma with the steering wheel controls? I would obviously need the corresponding airbag, but would a 4-Runner wheel physically bolt up? Have use of steering wheel radio controls? And still have a properly operational airbag?

They are charged about 300 total, they had to reflux the steering wheel pad back to the metal wheel.

I know that 4runner wheel will bolt up at least one from a 98 does. The airbags are not interchangeable though.

When you say that the airbags are not compatible do you mean that a FJ80 airbag won't work on a 4-Runner steeling wheel and vice versa? Or do you mean that the airbag from the 4-Runner will not plug into the steering column of the Land Cruiser?

I'm also curious if a 4Runner wheel would mount up. At times I think the steering wheel buttons would be nice to go with my aftermarket head unit.

The 4runner airbag wilt fit in the land cruiser steering wheel, it is very close though. The plugs are the same. However, I am not I would want an airbag to deploy that was not designed for the specific car.

Since I have a 1992 without air bags, I wouldn't need it to plug in. An airbag would just fill that otherwise empty space contingent on the steering wheel bolting up.

Another possible option: I ordered @FloridaFJ80's steering wheel leather to go along with the seat covers. My local upholstery shop didn't sound too excited about steering wheels, but I'll try and persuade them. Otherwise, I'm going to spend some time on Youtube and try out my baseball stitching technique.

Y'all be VERY careful jacking around w/airbags. Going off @ the wrong time can, and has, killed people. Just FYI!
