Full flat cargo plate - anyone make one?

It sure feels like it when I sleep on it... :)

Padding it with some appropriate thickness rubber is a good idea.

Yes, at least on this body that one rib sticks up higher than the others.

I could potentially persuade it with a hammer, but at least for now it sticks up higher

Now I'm curious if that one should be higher, or if it is the result of some activity from the prior owner...?

To the extent that stiffening ribs are proud, I can shim the underside with plywood, cut to fit shims, or rubber neoprene sheet as needed.

I'm reasonably sure that the fore/aft dimension will need to be supported/shimmed where it gets lower over the second row and forward. I'll need forward structure/legs, etc.

A sheet of plywood will smooth out minor irregularities.

Off to the local wood store to see what they have in stock.

Your mounting approach is great too. You must've put a lot of thought into this! Thanks for sharing your insights.

Good stuff, keen to see how it goes.

Keep the carpet in to avoid rattles.

Buy some alu flat bar. Again, cheap, lightweight & only 1 - 3mm thick. Drill holes through to align with the factory seat mounting points. 6 points, 12 bolts I think.

Attach main sheet to the bar with a few screws.

Drill out an oversized hole through the sheet to fit bolt + socket.

Should give you a flush finish that can be removed in under 60 seconds with an impact driver.

Basic drawing with section below. Not to scale, but gets the idea across.

Good suggestion! 👍

You have to really beat the piss out of it!
I tried a BFH on my hzj105, they have the same bump, it's clearance for the exhaust.
Great insight, thank you!

This less than 3 sheets of plywood. If you fold the 2nd row down using a 2 inch spacer it forms a flat sleep platform.

Thank you.

I have multiple raised platforms of various makes and quality (homebuilt, Trekbox, ADGU and Reef) in the garage here.

That isn't what I'm looking for here - I just want a flat floor level platform.

Quick update. I haven't had time to make a nice plate with the baltic birch. I have a camping trip this weekend, and I had a sheet of AC plywood in the shed. So, I jammed together a temporary version, using a single sheet and minimal frills. It took less than an hour, a circular saw and a jigsaw. It won't win any awards, but it should be nice to sleep on.

What tie downs do you use with those rails ?
I have the same rail, just not real jazzed on the tie down anchor rings they came with

I use the cheap clips that come in the kits with rollercam loop end straps and they work well. No complaints in the couple of years I've been doing this in the 200.

Here is my setup for this (short 2 day) trip:

Any pics of this installed?
Unfortunately no. Didn't intent to take pics of the build. This was a mock up before going to 20/80 material. Final plan is to use this measurements to order the 20/80 aluminum frames and use bamboo panels for the skin.

On a different note, about 100 years ago @LandCruiserPhil was selling screens that slip over the rear doors. I have been using these for years and they're great. Of course this was before rare earth magnets were readily available.
I also have a small USB powered fan that clips to the grab handle above the rear door and keeps air moving very nicely.
A quick update regarding window screens.
On my recent multi day trip to Maine, one of my LCP screens tore a bit at the bottom.
After a search, I came across Wagan Tech. These folks are selling slip over screens for $7.83 for the pair right now.
While the LCP screens were made for the rear doors of the 80, these are generic. The small ones are too small, and the large ones are a bit too large, but they work well. You just need to pull them down past the window onto the door body. Same concept as the LCP ones.
The website doesn't tell you that they come as a pair, so I have extra screens now :).

Yep that's my buddy's company. Been using that screen when camping. Their power stations are pretty legit too.

Funny I just started measuring for a camping build out on the Green Truck. This thread is on time. Great ideas here. The trend these days (and it makes sense) is to not load your rig with Sh*tloads of overland accessories hanging off the top of the truck, and just figure out how to sleep inside. My Achilles heel is spare tire placement on a trip, since I don't yet have a rear bumper with swingout.

I love my setup with the flat floor. I sleep in it and it is perfect for solo trips. I have a Belfab tire carrier to store the spare vertically inside. And I switched from the Frontruner boxes to Milwaukee packout boxes.

I have a spare Bellfab tire carrier (v1) for sale if you're looking for a good solution for your spare that keeps floorspace for sleeping. It's listed in the classifieds. For Sale - Vermont - Bellfab Interior Tire Carrier for 80 Series Land Cruiser - v1 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/vermont-bellfab-interior-tire-carrier-for-80-series-land-cruiser-v1.1338914/post-15487025
