Merry christmas all!
I'm in the process of moving my electric fuel pump from the top of the wheel well to another location below the gas tank as per recommendations. It's a little AC Delco thing. Now I'm wondering as well..should the fuel filter be ahead of the pump towards the carb instead of behind it towards the tank? Or does it make a difference?

I think you want the filter between the pump and carb. Electric pumps don't pull well, that's why you want to install them low or below the tank.

I have the same electric FP on mine … mounted below battery area … filter between FP and carb

Do not put the filter near carb or above manifold … if you use the plastic filter and it leaks or cracks it is bad :meh:

One of the worst sounds is fuel dripping on exhaust manifold lol

Yikes! Thnx ...

You need an electric fuel pump below the fuel tank to ensure that it always has fuel to cool the electric motor.

Starve an electric fuel pump and it’ll burn up.

Good point, thnx!

When I got my rig. It had an AFI system on it. They placed the full pump right behind the gas tank on the frame rail - which seems like an ideal location.

I pull that system out and have a factory carb and fuel pump - and couldn’t be happier.

In 30 years I’ve only replaced it once

Those lil box pumps work great … just mount it as low as you can get it

Don’t use the metal fuel filter that comes with it

I use a vw plastic clear filter
Cool.
Where did you mount yours?

I've got the factory pump, the guys are rebuilding it ...diafram, couple of broken screws in the top plate .... I want the electric as a back up.

The worst sound is the "whoosh" from the explosive gas fumes fire from a carelessly and incorrectly installed glass bowl of the fuel filter. Ask me how I know. Look closely to see the paint bubbled up on my air cleaner. This could have been catastrophic for vehicle and garage/home. I got lucky.

Filter bolts right onto the carb?
