First time to replace my fuel pump on 3/68 FJ40. I was able to scrape the old gasket at engine block and clean the surface. Looks good - no gouges or pits (photo attached). Please see questions below photo.

. Should I use a gasket adhesive when installing the new gasket and rebuilt fuel pump? If yes, what do you recommend? Thanks!

Light coating of Toyota FIPG or something for oil like RTV black on both sides of the gasket (or on the pump and block, just not all 4 surfaces). Put some on the threads also as I think those holes are open and will seep oil. That's what I did and would do again.

Thanks to you and Steffan. I purchased a tube of RTV Black last evening. Instructions say to allow 24 hours before putting the installed gasket into serivce. Is that necessary? If not, how long should I wait before testing out rebuilt fuel pump?

That 24hrs rule is for the RTV to "cure". Technically, that's what you should do. But I rarely have that much time before I needed to send a vehicle back into service, especially when I was working as a fleet mechanic. Give it 15min to dry or as long as you can wait lol. You have about that much time to get it installed (at least in my climate) before it skins over anyway so 🤷‍♂️.

Now before I get flamed, this applies to what @Relot76 is doing - a thin layer on a paper gasket. If you are gooping the corners of an intake or pan or whatever, sorry, you gotta wait a few hours.
