My buddy called me and asked if he would do any damage driving on the front wheels only. It seems that his rear drive shaft fell off and he wants to wait until he is back from a road trip. Any idea if he will do any damage? Thanks

He will have to have a way lock the center diff in order to do it (CDL switch), I don't think it would be a problem, kinda like the guys that drop the front driveshaft and lock the cdl to have rear wheel drive. What year is his 80?

It handles real goofy at times. Christo and I drove several hundred miles this way to get back from paragon one year. We found a rear drive shaft on the way back to Colorado in a junk yard around the great lakes area. Did not feel as stable at times. It did no damage to any thing. But you do need to lock the center diff some how. I do not remember the jumper method to lock in a emerengcy, maybe some will remember. good luck robbie

if he doesn't have the CDL switch, you could take the Warning lights one and put it in IIRC. All of 20 mins work.

If you do not have a CDL switch you can shift into low to lock and then get under the vehicle (safely, of course :flipoff2: ) and unplug the low 4 position switch. Shift back out of low and the transfer should remain locked. To unlock, plug the low 4 switch back in.
