My take on Prinsu vs Front Runner Slimline II.

Excellent video. Diggin' the content you're putting out. I assume those are Rigid's current scene lights? You mentioned a prototype in a previous vid.

Last time I was at Mudrak Custom Cruisers, Gary said basically the same thing when I asked about racks.

Thanks! Yes, current gen. I'll show the new version on the Dissent build video soon.

Great overview, thanks for putting this together. I had the Front Runner on my 80 and 100 and it was great. If I end up getting a rack for the 200 I would probably get the Front Runner again because of how incredibly flexible it is.

BTW, I think you can mount the tray upside down and gain an extra inch of clearance. You wouldn't have the lip that runs around the perimeter though but that may not be a big deal.

How about a side by side noise comparison with the sunroof open on the highway? :poof:

FYI, CBI Offroad is located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I've been meaning to take a day trip over just to see some of their stuff. What I have seen has been impressive.

I looked at both when shopping for a rack. I ended up going with the Gamiviti Expo ++. Really nice rack and its really strong. I also liked that it didn't block the sunroof and still maintained its strength. If you are in the market its definitely worth a look.

Thanks Ed. I hadn't gotten a good look at either. I am still happy with my Gamiviti. The height can be adjusted on it.

Eric at Ed Martin installed my Prinsu and I really like how quiet it is. I registered 63-65 decibels with sunshade open and closed at 70mph. Identical numbers before roof rack. If you open the sunshade you can hear the wind a little from flowing over the fairing but not enough that I wouldn’t drive with my sunshade open. When closed, it’s dead quiet. Anyone considering the Prinsu, I would recommend the fairing and noise reducing edge guard. I am 100% happy with my Prinsu and have already received compliments. Thanks Eric for your recommendations!!

Hey Eric,
I know it’s only been out a day but I’m definitely excited to see your thoughts on how the new ARB base rack compares to prinsu and frontrunner. It seems to be the best of both.
I’ll probably order one today and give the community some feedback ASAP

I'm sold on the Front Runner because I can also have 2 tables under the rack, but at over $2300.... I need my Christmas bonus-LOL

Eric - can you recommend a good online distributer for ARB products?

The typical online shops I have used over the years do not do a clean job an outlining ARB products. For example, I haven't seen the ARB Base Rack on them (at least the online stores I have used in the past).

ARB has a head office in Washington state. Give them a call - they're quite helpful and will show you whatever you're after.

I haven't seen the new 200-series aluminum ARB Base Rack yet in person, I was told they were 6 weeks out (last month). So I am guessing Sept/Oct 2020 ETA. I will buy one and review it when I can get my hands on one. I would definitely check with a Mud sponsor first @sleeoffroad @cruiseroutfit . If they don't I would guess 4WP and OK4WD would be the easy options.

Anyone know what the load bar mount spacing is on the Front Runner racks?
It’s adjustable just had mine put on this week and had them put 4 together in the back to create a small platform ... then the others are about 6” a part and then I had them leave an opening for the sun roof.. my understanding though is once installed not adjustable unless you take it back apart to a certain level....

I love the looks of the Prinsu, most low-profile rack out there, but I wasn't pleased with the build quality of the one I installed on our 4Runner 3-4 years ago, hopefully it has gotten better.

Could you post a slightly further away pic of just the front section? Or let me know how many slats are in front of the sun roof as well as the number that aren't installed directly above the sunroof? My rack is here Wednesday and I was going to get the tray assembled before my Cruiser gets here at the end of the month. I was planning on doing the exact same thing to leave an opening for the sunroof and put the extra slats at the back.

You are correct that it would need to be disassembled to a fairly decent point to add or remove slats after the fact. On the Front Runner racks the slats fit into the side rails by about 1"; the only way I could imagine to add or remove would be to take the entire tray off (leave mounting rails attached to roof) and then you'd need to undo the slats on one entire side and pull that side rail off. I think you might be able to take the side rail off while it's on the truck, but it wouldn't be as easy.

I don't know what issues you are specifically referencing on yours, but IMO the problem on the 4Runner was the fact they only had two mounting points per side rail which caused a sag. That combined with the fact the only thing holding the entire span of it together were a handful of 1" 1/4-20 bolts just seemed like it was asking for issues. While you can't fix the issue of the small bolts, at least on the LC200 you get 4 mounting points per side rail which should distribute the load a lot more evenly and eliminate the sagging issue. I also did notice the powder coating on mine loved to flake off a lot faster than any other rack I've seen.
